Luis Enrique did cause some hard feelings for Real Madrid fans, but the impact was not as great as Figo to Real Madrid. Laudrup to Real Madrid probably cause more pain than Luis Enrique. I do not think Luis Enrique deserved the golden traitor award.

I don't believe in this

So a club transfers a player for profit and/or because they feel he is not useful anymore, or flatout cuts him, not a whimper is heard. But if a player changes clubs for THE EXACT SAME REASON, he's a traitor ?

Horsesh!t.

Take today for example. There is a big stink in Italy because Sheva apparently kissed the Chelsea shirt after he scored this weekend (I didn't see it so I'll defer to it being true). Opinions are rampants, polls are being conducted, other players are piping in, etc, etc.

Sheva apparently had a press conference today to calm the storm. huh ?

Come on. What an exaggeration. Maybe Milan fans now know who Dynamo Kiev fans felt 7 years ago.

At least in this case I think it's a bit fake for Sheva to have done that. First game and already kissing the shirt ?? In his defense, he said that he loses his mind after he scores and doesn't even know what he's doing.

Whatever. I have no problems with players going to a rival.

You are missing the point. The example you just mentioned (Sheva) is wrong.A good example, relevant to the thread, would be Paolo Maldini moving to Inter!Just imagine what would happened then in Milan and how the ''rossoneri'' fans would feel about him. So,I suppose now that your club is relegated and players leave, you personally wouldn't have any problem seeing players like Buffon-Nedved-DEL PIERO etc. play for Torino(if Toro could afford them).Right?

I can't say I do, Nicholaos !

I'm embarrassed to say but ADP was booed regularily about 2 or 3 years ago for about a half season. Why would, rather SHOULD, we expect ADP to stick around after getting that treatment ? Raul at RM, etc. Small example that is admittedly not the best Again, but I think you understand my point.

In short, it's not like the clubs don't make these same decisions all the time.

Ok then, here is a hypothetical question for you:If you were a top player playing all your life for your favorite Juve, would you ever consider joining Toro(even if the tifozi booed you)?
And another one:do you think that if Barca's chairman sells Ronaldinho to Real Madrid(since clubs make such decisions all the time as you said)the Boixos Nois won't cause him any . . . problems?
Keep in mind that football is more than a business(at least as I see it)

Definitely, although he wasn't Rangers' first Catholic player. He hands-down wins this one.

Grew up supporting Celtic, signed for them after he returned from a stint in England and was a darling of the fans - scored 55 goals in 3 seasons there and became a star internationally for Scotland. He bid a tearful farewell to them in the late 80s when he signed for Nantes, saying he would never be returning to the SPL. But he changed his mind, and said he would resign for Celtic after he completed his 3 year contract in France, saying "Celtic are the only club I ever want to play for."

However at the last minute he changed his mind and signed for Rangers, causing a massive uproar on both sides. Celtic fans branded him a traitor and sent him death threats, getting so bad that at one point it meant he had to live in an undisclosed location outside Glasgow to avoid irate supporters. Some sections of the Rangers fanbase were almost as bad, demonstrating outside Ibrox and burning their scarves and season tickets.

He went on to score 36 goals for Rangers (including a deliciously Schadenfreude last-minute winner over Celtic at Ibrox) leading them to 3 successive title wins, which set up a decade of dominance over their crosstown rivals.

Yeah that beats Luis Figo in my opinion. Have there been any big AC Milan to Inter or vice versa transfers in the past?

Absolutely.

Maybe its the fact that time is a great healer, but Pat Jennings is an idol at Spurs still. He actually has his own hospitality lounge where he greets guests on matchdays.

In fairness Spurs consented to his move to Arsenal.

Campbell though will never be forgiven. He deliberately misled Spurs fans by telling us he was going to stay, only to walk out to our most bitter rivals when he had the pick of any club in the world. The fact that we lost a £20m player for nothing didn't help matters either.

He will always be a judas and never forgiven.

I see.

The "Interesting Best XI" Thread (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5989530&highlight=Judas#post5989530) has some attempts at a Judas Best XI.

Unlike in England and maybe Spain, In Italy, switching between big teams goes on all the time. In fact, I'd say in Italy, the most transfers of players goes on between Inter and Milan !

from the current Milan roster that were ex-Inter players are: Favalli, Brocchi, Pirlo, Seedorf.

no current Inter players are ex-Milan players, but usually there are a few.

Vieri played for both teams in the last few years.

The San Siro stadium is officially named "Stadio Giuseppe Meazza" for the ex-Inter AND ex-Milan player.

Bergkamp was both a Feyenoord-fan and a Spurs-fan at early age, yet played for Ajax and Arsenal.

Was there a German-born Dutchman on the West german NT in 1974? Bonhof?

That's right, Rainer Bonhof is the only Dutch World Cup winner, he held a Dutch passport until age 16/17. :D But to be fair, I think only one of his grandfathers who moved to Germany ages ago was originally Dutch.

Monte was the worst!

The man played for Argentina in the final of the 1930 World Cup, THEN HE WENT TO ITALY!!

And played for their team, and won the 1938 World Cup

Johan Cruyff, having a disagreement with the Ajax board, moved to feyenoord. feyenoord won the championship immediately.

Later, cruyff returned to Ajax and immediately scored on of the most legendary goals in Dutch football against FC Haarlem.

"Cruyff's always right"

As far as I know, the only significant Dutch player ever to make a direct transfer between Ajax and feyenoord.

Uhm, AFCA, Cruijff stopped playing football (this time for real) after winning the double with Feyenoord. He then became TD for Roda.

Edit: yups... all clear again now. Stupid me :D

Dusan Bajevic(currently coaching Red Star Belgrade) is synonymous to the word traitor for AEK ultras. As a coach,he left AEK for Olympiakos back in 1996 despite his promise to AEK ultras(as they claim) that he wouldn't.After that he even received bullets(!) in his mailbox. The most incredible thing, though,is that he returned to coach AEK a few years later(with AEK ultras singing ''get out of here'' during AEK's home matches)!

If he takes the Mexico job then I'd nominate....

Many Americans would also consider Landon Donovan sort of a traitor for how he kind of manufactured his San Jose - Los Angeles move. Although the rivalry between those clubs is nowhere near as intense as some of the aforementioned.

Mo Johnston, Luis Figo & Michael Laudrup, and Alan Smith are a few names that come to mind.

Oh yeah... and how about George Graham?

Thanks to Excape Goat...this shows how bad of a move Luis Figo made by moving to Real Madrid. Pure Hatred.
