It is a competition that started in 1908, so it has plenty of history behind it...Liverpool and Chelsea are playing, so it should be entertaining...from what I understand, the funds from the game are given to charity (hence its earlier name Charity Cup)...but is the Cup itself worth much? Do the fans care if their team wins this particular Cup?

the winners will reflect a reserved pleasure.

the losers will claim indifference.

It matters tomorrow. But after that no one is really bothered.

Well due to Setanta buying the US rights to Liverpool vs. Chelsea games I am excited because this will be the only Liverpool vs. Chelsea game on FSC!

Two boring teams who play each other three hundrd times a season so know how to cancel each other out, playing in a meaningless game. Scrap it and start the Premiership a week earlier.

Sure first hardware of the season for Chelsea!

Pah!

You'd sing a different tune if Bolton were in it, I suspect.

It doesn't mean a whole lot, it's just a traditional season opener, nice day out.

Would have been better if the new Wembley was open for it though.

What will it count for on Monday morning?
Not much really.
Nobody brags about winning the charity shield!

Chelsea is looking very sluggish. Losing to MLS ALL-STAR and now losing to LiverPool.
Was a boring game tho. But i do think that this match was an important one, mentally.

No, I still wouldn't be interested. But then I wasn't interested when we were in the league cup final either, or for any of the Uefa cup. I don't have time for meaningless tournaments, and I don't like being flooded by foodball 24/7/365.

I'll put a fiver on Liverpool doing just that.

out of curiosity, is there actually anything you do like about football?

Yeah I like international tournaments and the league. Not really into all the money-making side-tournaments.

It's the curtain raiser for the whole season and at the end
of the day it's another trophy in the cabinet for the winners.
It's played as a competative game and still with all the passion
that you would see in a league or cup game

If I was allergic to irony I'd be having a heart attack right now.

This would mean Bolton had won something, so plainly no chance of that.

Chelsea "fans" obviously don't care. Otherwise, they would have supported their team at the event.

Time for your cocoa, gramps! Drink it up and then you can lay down for a nice nap before your 4PM supper.

Well it is always nice to win, but no great shakes if you don't.

Put it this way, no-one has an open-top bus parade after winning it.

it means about as much as the MLS pre-season matches.

You guys should have an all-star game.

All the teams that wear either deep blue or white against the teams that wear red and Other Colors. Newcastle and West Brom (when they're up) play for whichever side has fewer clubs represented.

Let's see...Chelsea, Everton, Reading, Portsmouth, Wigan, Blackburn, Spurs, Bolton, Fulham vs. ManU, Sheffield United, Middlesborough, Charlton, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham, Villa, Man City, Watford.

That would put Newcastle in blue.

Seriously, wtf are English sides so boring, color wise? Every team is in deep blue, bright red, or white, except Watford, Man City, and the Villa-Ham twins. Where's the purple? The orange? The burgundy, the teal, the maroon, the navy blue?
