Official now, so I figured I'd make a new thread. BBC link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/5252406.stm

Manchester United have signed Polish goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak on a season-long loan from West Brom, with a view to a possible permanent move.
In exchange, the Baggies will get defender Paul McShane and goalkeeper Luke Steele on a permanent basis.

Not sure I like that we gave up two players in exchange for a loan like that.

I like that we gave up two players who weren't going to make the first team in exchange for a loan like that.

Fixed.

McShane was being pimped around anyway and Steele is behind a lot of other keepers. Neither had a future and neither are a loss. It's much better than haggling over a fee. This way we get him in place now and that let's Foster go out for the start of the season.

Guess I'm just not that high on Kuszczak. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

He has his moments. He can pull off some incredible saves, even three consecutive and then have a complete howler.

I've been hoping for a very long time that we don't waste money on Kuszczak, so this move is good in my eyes. We got a player that Fergie was insistant on getting (I don't know why), and we did it without spending a dime. Yes, we lost McShane and Steele, but they were never going to affect the team this year anyways.

ok, great, close the thread and let's hope we're still getting a central midfielder.

Brilliant move, we offload two players who weren't gonna make it here, and get one on loan for a season for free, while we wait for another keeper to develop more. Excellent piece of business.

Think we'll buy Kuszczak next year, or let him go and keep Foster?

I like this solution.. we get to send Foster out, we have cover this season but we are not necessarily over encumbered next season...

we now have 4 prem starters reping United........Edwin and Thomaz (last season) and with Tim and Ben on loan we have plenty of viable options for the future..........

Doesn't say anything there about a loan. Doesn't say anything about a permanent deal either. they can "capture" a player on loan to right? or does that mean you've bought him permanently. If it is a permanent capture doesn't say anythinf about how long his contract is or anything so it's likely it's a loan deal.

Kuszcazk has signed a 4 year deal but the first year is just a loan??
This I do not understand.

Are we so short of cash that we just want to defer payment to West Brom until next year? Can they ask for a bigger fee then if he does well?

I dont think a fee is involved at all. We gave them steele and mcshane.

It's a 4 year deal. We will have to pay for him next Summer. We just get him on loan for the first year.

So I guess Tim Howard will leave us sooner or later...
I like Timmy but unfortunately it doesn't work out for him at United.

He's a pretty young keeper, and has his problems, but his future looks good. I think Timmy lost out because he had his chance in the first 2 years. This is a sign that Van Der Sar is almost at the end.
