It will be interesting to hear the exact reasoning behind the choice. Particularly considering the nation was split almost 50/50. My personal preference is that a captain should be a central midfield player whenever possible, so he can influence the entire field from his natural position. Regardless, congratulation to Terry.

What nation is that then Scotland?

England. He might have a 'lion heart' but for England's sake he'd better get a grip and improve his form.

That man is a ********ing prat. As biased as they come. He deserves the boot.

your concern for England has been noted
Bottom line is that John Terry is a natural leader...Neville is too old for the job, Rio too drug-addled and Gerrard is a little mentally unstable if you ask me.
There was only ever one choice really. John Terry.

When Lampard hasn't hindered him, like all WC, he has. :p
Anyway, what do I care? I'm Scottish, they're English and one is a dirty scouse to boot!

tell me about it...
not an exact quote but he went along the lines of "i thought stevie would get it,but in this day and age they could share it"
he'd be singing a differant tune if Gerrard was given it,or back in his pool days i wonder what his reaction would have been if he was told you have to share your captaincy Phil.
it begings with F and ends in off....

Bobby Moore :D
I think historically speaking the great world cup captains have been defenders - a goalkeeper (Zoff) and a defensive mid maybe (Deschamps) here and there
….

Carlos Alberto, Beckenbauer, Daniel Passarella, Dunga, Cannavaro, Cafu
<o =""></o>
God bless ya, JT. :D :D
*opens a celebratory beer in his honor*
Singing "Terry for Captain of England" at the All-Star game looks very psychic now in hindsight... ;)

Beckenbauer, when not in midfield, and Passarella would break forward into midfield anyway, as would the lateral defenders you mentioned. Dunga was a defensive midfielder.

It's the right choice, as even though Gerrard would have made a very good captain, Terry will offer that little bit extra. Gerrard's 'Roy of the Rovers' role won't wash for England as it does for Liverpool.
Both were good candidates, so well done to John Terry.

Glad to see you've extrapolated my whole life story from just that.
Terry will be accepting this role over Gerrard with the humilty that you lack.

OK, enough already. This isn't a thread about Terry vs. Gerrard (a player, I should add, we almost bought).
We should be happy for JT who gets to captain England.
EDIT: Although I do hate two faced posters who say one thing on our boards and then say something else on others.
So Terry gets made captain despite never impressing for England and having a poor WC?
Names spared to protect the guilty.
