We should post one of these every day until there is something in the papers. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

If the Patriots staff doesn't like it, (as was suggested) they should test the job market and see what's out there that they may like better. I'll bet they come back with a new attitude.

One more day of this and I'll start a "Fantasy" news story thread in place of a real story. Kind of a creative writing exercise. Maybe that would shame the Revs management into doing something

These are the area papers that I know cover Revolution soccer. I've provided some email addresses, phone numbers and general contact forms to let them know you want more coverage. Posting that you want more coverage from these papers on this board doesn't exactly let them know they have an audience.

Let them know they have an audience.

I think jmeissen0 has the right idea, and I know that there are several other fans out there who have been doing this, but if everyone who comes on the boards complaining about the lack of coverage actually takes the few minutes to write these papers something might get accomplished.

I know the Revs staff are severly depleted. The reasoning behind the disgruntled Patriots employees is that a lot of them just had thier jobs doubled without much, if any, compensation.

I know there are those "in the know" that are close to people within the organization, but I can honestly say that unless you work for the team you will never see the full picture of who is doing what and who makes what decision.

Just my two cents

I think there are any number of fans here who are savvy enough to contact the local media in such a way as to encourage greater coverage. The timing's just not the greatest for the Revs right now, not with March Madness, the Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox all vying for column inches. It is surprising that Dell'Apa hasn't had his regular Tuesday column in some time.

I've checked out the Costa Rican papers as well:

Diario Extra - nothing
El Heraldo - nothing
La Prensa Libre - nothing
La Republica - nothing.

But low in behold!

ARRIBÓ EL NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION (from LDA's official website)
http://www.ldacr.org/Noticias_170303-3.htm

Loosely translated:

"The North American team, the New England Revolution, arrived in the country on Sunday, March 16th to prepare for their series with Sport League Alajuelense in the first round of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Provided with accommodations at the San Jose Palace Hotel, the runners-up of MLS engaged with training in Costa Rica on Monday the 17th on a private field that LDA made completely available to the visitors.

Both encounters of the series are going to be carried out in the Alejandro Morera Soto STadium, the first of them on Sunday, March 23rd at 5:00PM, and the second to follow on Wednesday, March 26th at 8:30PM.

New England spent their pre-season in Brazil, their season begins the first week of April, and are coached by Steve Nicol who arrived in the country on Friday the 14th to observe the "clásico nacional" (believe the release is referring to the big domestic match between LDA and Saprissa ) this past March 15th.

The list of soccer players is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Adin Brown, Kyle Singer.
Defense: Shalrie Joseph, Daudo Kante, Joseph Franchino, Leo Cullen, Rusty Pierce, Nick Downing, Daniel Fernandez.
Midfield: Steve Ralston, Brian Kamler, Marshall Leonard, JayHeaps, Wiinston Griffiths.
Forwards: Joe Max Moore, Taylor Twellman, Pat Noonan, Ibrahim Kante."

i concur that people are savvy enough, it took my 5 minutes to put all that info together and post it

however, being savvy enough to find the info and actually contacting them are two entirely different things

and nowthere is no need to even look for this information, it's right in front of your nose... there is no excuse to not contact them

and i would imagine that the daily revolution news threads of late are examples of revolution fans being discontented with the present coverage... so instead of posting in here about there not being any news, why not remind them that you guys are still hungry for more

remember that other sports are still covered, even though the ncaa is having it's basketball tourney

Oops. That's what I meant (I edited my post to read "Harris").

So: anyone know where these guys are, or did Ala's web site screw up the roster?

Putting things like that on your website when they aren't showing up in the papers? Who would have thought of that? Maybe the Revs could take a cue from these guys. We should have negotiated a side deal where they fly down some of the staffers and train them in such tactics...

I wouldn't necessarily say that the Pats staffers had their work doubled, as that would imply that they do as much work for the Revs as they do for the Pats. The ticket sellers, on the other hand, actually have to sell tickets now so their jobs have probably tripled.

Could this be the place? If so, what are the chances of air mail reaching the team at least before the second game? I may send a little note wishing them luck.

heck, why don't you just fax them or email the concierge (it looks like a place that would have a concierge) and have them forward the well wishes onto the players and staff.

that might cheer up the boys a bit (if they need cheering up).

March Madness is THE biggest sports news time of the year.

College bball - with BC in the NIT, even that will get coverage. BC, Vermont, HC involved for men; BC, Harvard, HC, BU for women.

Local NCAA bball - with the Fleet center hosting 1st and 2nd round games, the papers are devoting extended coverage to the visiting teams. The Globe had about 4-5 pages devoted to it yesterday, and more today!

College hockey - league playoffs ending, NCAA playoffs starting (men's and women's).

Celtics/Bruins - both are in intense down the stretch fights for playoff position.

Red Sox - spring training is always a big item in Boston - they're even televising exhibition games!

Patriots - free agent shopping, preparing for draft

Boston Marathon coverage will ramp up soon.

That place looks pretty nice.

How come there wasn't a Midnight Rider Trip down there? 6 days, 5 nights, 2 soccer matches!

Come on -- are we fans or not?

just to play my usual role here...

if there is no news, why do you want the papers to write something nobody will read? or more accuratly, the only people that will read the off season, nothing happing, non practice day news are already on this board, and get the scoop BEFORE the local reporters come on this site to get info they can write about?

i personally don't read those sh*&ty papers when they put out soccer articles about NOTHING. what do you think casual fans do? non-fans? hampster cage filler.

if you think they should "promote the game" at all costs, even when there is nothing going on, and there might be something elso going on that might take that space, YOU buy a full page add and write something so that the whole world will know about you and your fun little club.

the rest of us will wait for real news.

what we need is a Steve Nicol to come on here, and do the "William Shatner at a trekie convention GET A LIFE" bit.

nobody cares what joey franchino puts on his toast when vacationing in costa rica.

really.

The Barcelo Hotels web site lets you contact guests by e-mail.

http://www.barcelo-hotels.com/Barcelo/EN/Producto/America/CostaRica/SanJose/SanJosePalacio/Principal/Principal

In the lower left hand corner of the page, click on the rectangular smiley to contact a guest. You'll then get a form to fill out to send an e-mail.

Nice of LDA to tell everyone what hotel the Revs are staying at. I'm sure there will be a large "welcoming committee" to regale their guests from el Norte.

At 3:00 am the day of the game.

Right now, we have a professional American sports franchise in Costa Rica and they will seemingly be there for another week or so. Given the US's current state of affairs, I for one, would be interested to know how the squad is being affected, if at all. Are they worried? Is the Management worried? The Krafts seemed to have the most stringent "lock down" in-house rules in MLS and maybe pro football as well b/c they say he is "a prominent Jewish businessman". To me, I'd be curious how this policy of safety translates to the people affiliated with one of his franchises.

In light of MLB potentially rethinking the upcoming A's v Mariners 2 game series in Japan (which would seem to be superficially "more safe"), I think having a local team in Central America at this time its quite "newsworthy". Soccer clearly has a more global awareness, but is less "American". Does this matter? Are they more/less safe than an MLB side? In addition, as far as I can tell, MLS is the only organization that has squads outside the borders at this moment (NE-CR, Burn-Chile, Col-Mex, NY/NJ-Arg).

Plus, I'd like to have "some" update to players' situations since there's been no word lately. (Kante's contract, players missing in CR right now, etc...). I think there's news out there and I don't remember seeing FDA pulling double duty for some other sport today.

I don't know what you know about Costa Rica, but it's a very safe place. In fact, you would have a very difficult time differentiating the Revs players from the LD Alajuelense players. The vast majority of Costa Rican people are White, mainly of Spanish descent. Less than 2% of the population is Black, except in the thinly populated Caribbean province of Limón

They are safer in Costa Rica than they are here. Do you think there are an Al Qaeda cells in Costa Rica?

Well, don't you think what you just wrote would be "decent" FDA or Martins material within the context of a larger article/update? That's the point. And using A.Q. in a question is pretty "narrow" don't you think? There are lots of organizations worldwide that "might" like to latch on to current events as an excuse to lash out in some fashion. Do I think there are some C. American groups that don't like the US, yes. Do I think that the Revolution players aren't safe, probably not. Would I like to know what the players are thinking right now, yes. Do I think that given the fact that a few MLS teams are the only teams "abroad" right now while MLB is looking at the games in Japan and the NCAA is looking at postponing the Tourney and the youth world soccer championships in UAE were cancelled...is "newsworthy", yeah. I don't think that's a big stretch.

uh - right. that IS an interesing angle.
News flash - Joe Franchino has toenail clippers confisgated by immigration and security services on entry to Costa Rica - possible hangnail affect Revs chances in cup that nobody cares about...

What time is the Fox Sports World report on? I need real soccer news - about, hows this for a streatch - teams that are actually playing in games.
