Gonna have to give this a year or two to see which team comes out ahead on this one.

Usually I'd say something about how Quaranta is young enough to turn his career around and how a change of scenery is exactly what he needs. After all, he was on the fringes of breaking through to the national team not too long ago, and everyone agrees he has the talent to...wait, was this Santino Quaranta, or Kyle Martino?

There are trades that are painful for teams to make, and then there are the "We give up on this guy" kinds of trades. Sure, DC United is the one forward-rich team in the league, but still. Given the massive price DC United demanded, which for the record was a partial allocation, and a conditional pick in the 2008 Superdraft, I'm guessing that someone figured out that he counted against the DC salary cap. I can picture the conversation among MLS fans now. "Wait, why is DC picking in the seventh round instead of LA?" "Because the Galaxy got Santino Quaranta a couple of years ago." "Who the hell is Santino Quaranta?" "Beats me. Come to think of it, why is there a seventh round in the Superdraft this year?"

Maybe I'm just still a little shy about the Wolyniec and Martino for Grabavoy and Ngwenya trade. Neddy and GI Joe could be kidnapped by aliens tonight, and Columbus would still have come out ahead on that deal. Quaranta for thin air might be a little more even.

I like this trade for DC. SQ is making a whole lot of money for a backup. And we've got to give big raises next year to Perkins, Gros, and Boswell (you could be talking $200 grand or so there). We may also need to add a player in there somewhere (for instance, if Jaime is too old next year), and there aren't many ways to do that without some allocation space (which btw can be used as cap space).

I dunno what the conditional draft pick is, but if SQ comes around, we get an extra pick, which isn't bad either for a team that would otherwise find difficulty adding parts.

Now, anyone wanna give us a partial allocation and a conditional draft pick for Nick Rimando?

The Rimando Army is highly disgusted at such thought....

Quaranta isn't as bad as people think. I hope he does well in LA. Lord knows LA can use some help!

Santino still has a lot of years left and can be a great MLS pro. There just wasn't room for him in DC and I hope he can get on the pitch regularly in LA. I think his career is just beginning.

I wonder if he'll improve like Chris Albright. I always thought that Albright needed to move "away" from home on the East coast to grow up and get his head together. It worked wonders for his soccer career.

Maybe Santino just needs some distance from DC and a chance to focus on soccer only (instead of hanging with his homeboys).

The change of scenery will help Tino. I wish him well and hope he overcomes the injury jinx he's had in the past. He's a good player.

HA!

Goalkeeper is the only position that RBNY has a lot of depth in. We wouldn't want a loser like Rimando. Meola and Conway are working out just fine -- Thank you very much.

...which helps explain why Metro/RBNY have never won anything. Last time I checked, the "loser" Rimando had exactly one more MLS cup to his credit with DC than Meola/Conway with Metro/RBNY.

Next time, before you toss around "loser," make sure it fits better on the one you label than on yourself. Cheers. Loser.

Whats with all this Albright has improved talk? The guy still sucked everwhere he went which is why they moved him to RB where he sucked less.

I'm a big fan of Tino I've always supported him but this was the best move for him, he needs to start fresh and hopefully show why he was once touted one of the US's best youth players.

As far as DC goes a partial allocation and 150K in salary space is a lot more then nothing. Add that to Dema's allocation and Filomeno's 160K of open salary space DC has the money to make some big moves.

The pick, according to Steve Goff, is a first or second round pick.

Wow.

Of course, Meola does have an MLS Cup to his name. But feel free to overreact to a comment that someone else doesn't want your backup keeper with a non-sequitir.

Read it again. He specifically said "than Meola/Conway with Metro/RBNY." Which is undeniably true.

But feel free to misread and misspell.

Rimando had sooooo much to do with DC winning that Cup. Much more than Meola had in winning the 2000 MLS Cup and 2000 MVP.

Loser. :D

Well, there was the bit with the PK shootout against NE. I suppose you stop watching MLS around playoff time most years, but it was possibly the greatest game ever played in MLS. I think Rimando saved the final shot to put us in the MLS Cup. Yeah, that's right. He out dueled Matt Reis. Yep. Winner.

Back to Santino. I'm sorry DC gave up on him. Dunno what's happening behind the scenes. Hope we do something with the partial allocation and all the other partial allocations we're collecting. Maybe we'll get a real Euro star, just like the Pinkcows
