That New York Sun article -- it can't possibly have been written by THE Paul Gardner. No gratuitous MLS bashing, no griping about a lack of Latin players. Definitely a case of identity theft.

Yeah… I keep picturing this goatee’d man in a long coat, giant, face concealing hat, and dark glasses trying to get by security at the Sun offices:

“Who Me? Oh, just dropping off my column. Yep, MY column. Me. Dauln Garbdner… er…I work here.”

i just emailed paul gardner

Read you article and agree with it except for one part, which I personally found amusing:

"There was also a desire by the players to squelch the idea that American soccer is a joke and their league a rinky-dink production. Mission accomplished, I'd say."

To be honest, I believe this is the first time I've heard you say that. This idea about American soccer is fueled by articles which you've personally written, always degrading the product of the field, MLS and US Soccer in general.

yea, that was an amazing article by gardner - sort of the "anti-Trecker, Jr." version.

I liked the Djorkaeff article. I think the man DESERVES to play against Barcelona if only because he has dealt with so many games in Giants Stadium when it was but a handful of people watching. Now Youri gets to play in front of a true packed house in NYC.

Somehow I don't believe this part of his article: "Let's just point out that this is not a knock on soccer as a sport. I like soccer."
