That says that the League is thinking bout a bigger League Cup , with 16 Teams (may 8 of both 1st and 2nd League) , a KO Round, an the winner gets a spot in the UEFA Cup.

Shit. That's how the other big countries with a "League Cup" do it already!

That Germany didn't was why I called this one a "joke" for so long!

I don't think they can make it for a UEFA Cup spot. What are they going to to do? Take the one from the DFB Pokal winner or the one from the fifth placed team in the table??

Or they negotiate with the fifa and make some ... bargaining?

yeah, i think instead of giving a UEFA spot to "Fair-play" like with mainz last year... they can give it to the League cup winner.

No, they couldn't... the UEFA gives out three UEFA-Cup spots to promote fair play, it's not the DFL or DFB's choice to decide what to do with this spot if Germany gains it through the fair play ranking (additionally, there is no guarantee at all that a country gets a fair play spot, as this obviously is based on the UEFA fair play ranking).

Take it from the fifth placed team, obviously. Every country that gives out an UEFA cup spot to their League Cup winner does it (see England: 3 UEFA cup spots, 1 for the League Cup winner, 1 for the FA cup winner, 1 through the League) and no country got an extra spot for it.

The fair play thing is useless... players should play hard and not worry about cards

UEFA thinks otherwise ;). Anyway, those spots are additional spots, so no one looses from it.

I don't believe I ever said anyone got an extra spot for it. I just hate taking away a spot for someone who has been fighting in the league over an entire season and giving it to some team who wins a damned unnecessary tournament.

I think you mean "UEFA". FIFA has nothing to do with this.

And no, they aren't going to give Germany another spot just because the DFL and Premiere want their damned unnecessary tournament to mean something.

The League Cup is a joke. They ought to take it out back and shoot it.

The League Cup is also a joke in other countries that have it. Slightly less so in England because there is something of a history to it, but it's still not a competition anyone really takes seriously.

As footyfan1 says, I would hate to see a spot taken away from a team that fights over the course of the season to get in to Europe and given to a team that wins a useless tourneyment.

If there is so much room on the football calendar to add a new competition (OK, vastly expand an existing one), why not just expand the DFB Cup to allow ALL Regionalliga teams and more Oberliga teams to compete?

I didn't mean to say you did - was just meant as a general explanation of how it would work (as some responses in this thread seamed to suggest something along those lines).

Understand. And I saw what you meant in my response to "HeyaBVBs" message.

Thanks for clearing that up! :)
