Always a great rivalry with BVB. I think they are much improved under van Marwijk, but I think they will miss their Czech legionars. On the other hand their young players, Metzhelder, Odonkar and Kehl tanked alot of self confidence at WC, and played at a higher level than in league. I think Bayern will win, even though their warm up was well "lau warm", ecause they possess more expirience which helps alot early in the season before the team gets played in. Here is what I think we will see, not nec. my favoirte. Maybe Karimi ober Brazzo, but I look for Schweini and Poldi to work well together.

By the way, I stayed in Oberaudorf during WC. Turns out it's Schweini's home town and his family has a sporting goods/ museum there. Lots of fun and andd a good atmoshere at the local pub and soccerteam pub.

..............Kahn

The league opener, the first home match, this is a must win! Go Reds!

I'm not liking Santa Cruz in midfield at all. I'll never accept it as a formidable and serious approach at challenging for the title.

----------------Kahn---------------------

Sagnol------VB-----Lucio------------Lahm

------------Demi-----Hargreaves---------

--Brazzo-----------------------Schweiny-

----------Makaay------Poldi-------------

Or maybe Demi out, push Podolski back as AM and start Piza alongside Roy.

Play Makaay half the match each time until he improves.

I am not sure if Piza will be fully recovered.

I'll let Rogue to preside over midfield for a couple of more shots until proven otherwise.

In addition, following Karimi's excellent first half performance against Bremen, he deserves playtime.

Karimi should start.

I know I may not have been his biggiest fan in his first year but I'll be supporting him this year, we need a player like him.

I just hope the Werder game wasn't a sign of things to come.

I think it is only when you play them. Right now, they have to be considered the strongest team in the BL.

You guys shouldn't have a problem with everyone else.

I will say that I think our new strikers, Valdez and Frei, will give your defense some problems.

They don't work as well together as Klasnic and Klose do yet, but against Tottenham, they showed signs that they will get there.

It just won't be by Friday! :(

However, while I tipped a BVB win, that was a pick from the heart. If I were betting money, I'd tip you guys 3-2.

Without Woerns in our defense, I expect Poldi and Makaay or Poldi and Pizarro to abuse Markus Brzenska. Also, Christoph Metzelder may not be 100%.

Should be a good match though. However, our team is very young and I expect experience to win out.

Now, I won't be saying the same thing on the BVB boards! But I won't say much different either.

I'll just leave some things out! :)

Bayern to lose 6-0 and Magath gets fired during the half.

Yes its early in the season, so im getting my ridiculus comments out of the way.

But seriously, it gonna be another uninspired win for bayern in the death 2-1.

Strikers will go scoreless. (sorry king Roy :( )

He needs to improve his play. So does Poldi.
If you compare Makaay and Klose in the last match, you'll see the difference. Klose's work rate was first class. Their mid was not at all that outstanding either. Diego was not in his usual form and marked out of play by us. Schulz had one or two nice touches but it was all Klose's solo efforts that could turn half chances into ultimate scores.

I agree with what iranz fynest said (by the way I moved your post to this thread)...

Yes, we don't have a solid AM, but that's no excuse. Go get 'em, boys.

Projected lineup from Bayern (http://www.fcbayern.t-com.de/en/news/news/2006/08773.php?fcb_sid=d7735035321315b57a0364dc0499b11f) (REMEMBER--ALWAYS subject to change)

Bayern Munich: Kahn – Sagnol, Lucio, van Buyten, Lahm – Salihamidzic, Ottl, Hargreaves, Schweinsteiger – Makaay, Podolski

Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Degen, Brzenska, Metzelder, Dede - Kruska, Kehl, Pienaar, Kringe - Frei, Valdez

Referee: Knut Kircher (Rottenburg)

Injuries
a muscle strain means Ali Karimi is sidelined, along with long-term absentees Sebastian Deisler, Andreas Görlitz and Christian Lell. Lucio (calf) and Martin Demichelis (hamstring) are both rated doubtful.

Case in point..They have Lucio rated doubtful and in the projected lineup.

Good to see Piza is not on the injury list and ready to jump in anytime. Excellent!

Yeah I don't think he has played for the first team for almost 2 years.

I think there's a curse at Bayern and the constant injury problems; Zickler, Scholl, Santa Cruz, Deisler, Rau, Goerlitz all come to mind.

Actually it's quite a big problem in all of Germany, talented youth always seem to get injured for long periods of time and stagnate their progression.

i think this will be an interesting match. no easy one right off the bat, a big challenge i believe because i think dortmund will surprise some people with their young solid club this year.

i like this lineup -

its got a proper defensive mid playing alongside a dynamo who contributes offensively and defensively...
obviously, most of the attacking impetus comes down the flanks...
its a bit like arsenals preferred formation with viera and gilberto in the middle, in a sort of staggered 4-man midfield, with pires and freddy in slightly advanced positions...

does this make us predictable?
i dont think so - cos schweini, lahm, brazzo and even poldi like to drift into the middle and make things happen from there from time to time, or even just to be available as another option that might be difficult for the opposition to mark...

the only obvious thing for the opposition to contend with is sagnols crosses...

and even knowing thats his strength beforehand, doesnt make them easy to defend!

if we go with that lineup (or demi instead of ottl), i say we get a 1-0, or 2-0 win...

if roque starts in midfield, its a 1-1 draw...
