As I've done for the last three years, I will provide weekly results and updates for the Big Soccer Kicker manager game. This thread will be utilized for that purpose. Feel free to post your comments and thoughts, as well.

I keep track of three things: (1) Weekly winners; (2) High weekly scores [cumulative top 10]; and (3) Overall leader. If there is anything else you want me to track, let me know, and if it is doable (defined as not too much work for me), we'll include it.

As in the past, the league winner is the person with the most points at the end of the season. The "cup/pokal" winner is the person with the most weekly wins (ties broken by most points in the wins). The top three finishers on points qualify for the "Champions League" and the next two qualify for the "UEFA Cup" (bragging rights only). There is no "relegation."

Last season, the Euro qualifiers were as follows:

1. Simon Regnet (961 points) (Champions League)
2. Carsten GB (Champions League)
3. Gabrielle Schulz (Champions League Qualifier)
4. KKOne (UEFA Cup)
5. Jeanette Knobloch (UEFA Cup)
6. DanielHSV (UEFA Cup--qualified because Jeanette won the Cup and qualified for the UEFA Cup that way)

2005-06 Cup Winner: Jeanette Knobloch (5 wins)
2005-06 High Score: DanielHSV (88 points)

In 2004-05, the Euro qualifiers were as follows:

1. Bernd Schulz (1255 points; overall ranking approximately #9000+)
2. OlafGB (CL)
3. WindyKid (CLQ)
4. Jeanette Herzog (UEFA)
5. CarstenGB (UEFA)

2004-05 Cup Winner: Syncope (5 wins, including 4 straight at end of season)
2004-05 High Score: Syncope (87 points)

In 2003-04, the Euro qualifiers were as follows:

1. Wolfsburgh (1032 points; overall ranking #4445)
2. CarstenGB (CL)
3. MattBro (CLQ)
4. AlexK (UEFA)
5. Meghan Elizabeth (UEFA)
6. Gabrielle Schulz (qualified for UEFA cup b/c Meghan Elizabeth was cup winner and therefore qualified for Europe that way)

2003-04 Cup Winner: Meghan Elizabeth (5 wins)
2003-04 High Score: BriHodge (60 points)

In 2002-03, AlexK was the champion.

As in years past, I will use BS usernames if I know them. If you don't think I know your username, drop me a PM with your Kicker name.

Cool, thanks. I actually thought so already actually, but as there are a few Werder fans here, I wanted to be sure :D.

Spieltag Results:

Spieltag Winners:

1. Gabrielle Schulz (50 pts.)

Overall Leaders:

1. Gabrielle Schulz (50 pts.) (+6)

Top 10 Weekly Scores:

1. Gabrielle Schulz (50 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
2. Fernando Arteaga (44 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
3. OlafGB (40 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
4. CarstenGB (38 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
5. Wolfsburgh (34 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
5. Mark Kurzer (34 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
5. Bernd Schulz (34 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
8. Jaison (33 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
9. Thorsten Christiansen (28 pts.) (Spieltag 1)
10. KKOne (23 pts.) (Spieltag 1)

A pretty solid opening week for most across the board. Gabrielle Schulz is the big winner with a 50-point effort, handily beating Fernando Arteaga. Fernando was the only newcomer among the top 7, as league veterans dominated at the top of the table. As a league, we finished #4716, which is probably right about in middle (is there any way of figuring out our league's percentile, short of counting every team in the league, e.g., being able to get the bottom of the table without scrolling through the entire table).

I love it when

1) Bayern don't start Podolski
2) None of my strikers score

Here's to a better week (for all of us, but mostly me :D)

Here's to a better week (for all of us, but mostly me :D)

My strikers failed to score for much of last year. This weekend, Stajner scored, which would have been great, but for the fact that I started Valdez, Guerrero and Hanke instead, all of whom combined for 0 goals (heck, Stajner scored as many goals as their three teams did, combined). Same old, same old. On the flip side, two of the MFs I started scored (Azawoohoo from Mainz and Rolfes from Leverkusen), and Zdebel, whom I did not start, also scored (Feulner, who I also did not start, picked up an assist, so I left 8 points on the table). I might have to play a 3-5-2 regularly this year if my MF keeps on scoring but it will still be a long season if I need to rely on MFs for my scoring. I'm hoping one of my five strikers, all of whom I expect to play regularly for their teams, steps up and approximates a decent BL forward (my money, figuratively and literally, is on Valdez, my most expensive player), which means all I need to do is cobble together something passable from the other 4 guys.

As for Bayern, here's why I rarely buy Bayern guys: (1) they are overpriced because of who they play for and because they are almost always players of considerable reputation and talent; and, (2) because Magath is spoiled for choices and because of European play, they aren't as likely to play as much as their counterparts on a lesser team without Bayern's depth. It's not that Bayern guys aren't good--it's just that they are not going to get as many opportunities to play as would cheaper someones on another team. If Podolski starts 20 BL games and scores 10 goals (not an unreasonable estimate), is he more valuable than the much cheaper Oliver Neuville (for example), who's probably going to start 30 games and score 10 goals? I probably call it a wash, but I've got a lot more money to spend on other players with Neuville.

Argh, I sucked... 3 of my players got a 5,0 and I picked exactly the 2 defenders Bremen didn't play...

We did quite good in the 2nd league (and I did the best, off course. Have you ever seen the all-time 2nd BL table? if not, follow this link: http://www.fussballdaten.de/zweiteliga/ewigetabelle/ )

Notice that, including havelse, there are 4 Hanoverian teams. And the OSV, which I played at and whose stadium is 5 minutes by bike from my parents home is in the top 100 ;-)
