Hey Gooners,

I've notice this board has lots of traffic and is very logically handled by the mods. However over at the Chelsea board they lock threads like they are going out of style. I know of two threads recently which were locked for no good reason at all. I made a post about it and it was qucikly deleted. A pm telling me to take up any issues with mods over pm quickly followed. So I made my point about the thread in question and was given a completely BS reason for the thread being locked. They claim the thread was about the MLS All Star game and there was already a thread on the subject. However the thread was actually pertaining to the ESPN announcers in general and also evolved into a discussion about why the U.S. doesn't produce a greater number of quality footballers. I don't see why these two subjects would be forced into a thread directly about the game. It will only clutter the thread and make posters weed through posts not pertaining to their conversation. This is just silly and there is absolutely no reason for it.

Anyway I really like this board and the fact that it has mods is one of the reasons. However what can be done when a mods powers have gone to their head? Is there anywhere that I can report this?

Cheers,

Dave

Each forum has different mods and to a certain extent different standards of conduct. Once you learn what they are for the individual forums, you should follow them. If you aren't sure about the standards of conduct for a forum, read more and post less.

I would also agree that if disagree with something that a mod does, it is best to take it up with them privately rather than posting in a thread.

I have no problem with taking it up in a pm. However the mod in question is closing threads for no good reason other than his own opinions. How can what I described have anything to do with conduct? No one was acting in a bad manner other than possibly the mod. Is is acceptable to lock threads because they may make a mention to something from another one? If they were to do that then I guess we only need the sticky's. Also, is it ok for mods to turn the boards into their own personal space or do they have rules to abide by? Again, is there any way to report mods who abuse their power?

I would tell you that some mods are more likely to bin or merge threads/posts that they feel are off topic or that are already contained in other threads. This is what I mean when I say each forum has it's own norms. This forums tends to be a little more relaxed than others.

'The rules we have to abide by' are the terms of service for this site. Mods are expected to 'keep order' in each of the forums. That's ambiguous and is also why there are different norms.

There is a link to the Helpdesk at the bottom of each page of Big Soccer. You can register your displeasure there if it makes you feel better.

Yes it would. I don't believe this person is a mod on any of the other forums and it's apparent as every other forum allows for fair debate. Locking threads just because you can is ridiculous.

Thank you.

The mods over here are very good at keeping order - well with the exception of Rick B - he just causes more trouble  just kidding.

I have noticed that a few of my posts in the Sperz and Chelsea forums magically vanish even though they are really not trolling at all - I think they just don't like outside opinion too much.

I like them all the same, but it just came down to the best avatar of the bunch.
