RE: C.Ronaldo

mmm, the idea is good, but not sure about the end product. Half the time he ends up losing the ball. Those stepovers of his are so played out.

The end product argument is something concocted by rival fans (with a hefty dose of bitterness thrown in for luck). Could he do better? Of course. However, his passing %, assists and goals are usually the best out of any winger in the league. His record for Portugal speaks for itself. Regardless, this topic is only about dribbling and C. Ronaldo clearly excels at it.

I never thought I would ever hear this coming from you!

Yeah, as far as dribbling goes, there are very few that are up to his standards. Ronaldinho, Robinho...maybe a few others.

And Teso could not be more correct about his end product. A quick glance at his statistics in the EPL, compared with other wingers, will show how much his end product really does excel. It could be better, but he is young and the potential is there.

I think the misconception of his end product comes from the fact that when he does give the ball away, it is directly from him...not from a pass. Most players give away the ball just as much...but it is not at their feet when it happens. The problem with that is that he is constantly attracting 3 or even 4 defenders. Its pretty hard to pass well when you have 4 guys on you.

Which is an argument for him releasing the ball sooner. He holds the ball, does a few wacky scissors (or pedalada em Portuguese) that only manage to freeze the defender (as oppose to make him lean the wrong way, which is the purpose of scissors), cuts inside his defender onto his opposite foot, shoots over (or wide, or straight into the keeper), then proceeds to hold his face or head in his hands as if to say "SO CLOSE". Thats the problem with "wingers" nowadays, they don't actually pass the ball. Joaquin, for me, is the best winger because he is direct and he services the forwards quickly. Christiano will eventually be the amazing player he already thinks he is, but right now he is just good.

I agree with Robinho and Ronaldinho...also Quaresma

Then why does he regularly outscore so-called direct wingers? How then, do you also explain his record for Portugal?

All I know is that in all the fancy videos I see of C Ronaldo doing his moves most of the time after the move is jumps to another clip, presumbly because he got knocked on his a$$ or lost the ball.

The point is valid, but it doesn't take away from how incredible he already is. Would somebody post EPL stats for wingers? Im pretty sure he is in the top 3 for assists, and top 3 for goals scored (for wingers).

Now if he can do that, all the while screwing up by holding on to the ball too long in some cases...imagine what he can do if he improves?
