Great start for Union. Nobody expected it and nobody thinks it will last. This is basically the same team that struggled so hard to get out of the 4th division last season. Promotion is still a tabou subject, but barring a total collapse we should be safe from relegation.

I hope, that Union can make it in 2nd division.
The "old lady" feels propably alone, another profi
team from Berlin would be good. ;)

Damn right. And maybe some day we'll finally get that stadium built they've been talking about for as long as I can remember.
There is no reason why the capitol and largest city cannot support two Bundesliga sides. It's the story or Union, though: one step forward, two steps back.

Good job to Union!
Qualification to the 2. Bundesliga would be great, but lets not get too far ahead (Hertha's technically ahead of the Bundesliga  ).

Still a complete and utter travesty that we can't get a good team in Leipzig. *sigh* - Sachsen Leipzig is in 9th place in the Oberliga NO-S, while Lok Leipzig can't even get in 1st place in the 6th division Bezirksliga.
:(

It is a real shame. Leipzig absolutely deserves a team in the first or second league. Oberliga NO-S is a hell of a lot more difficult than Oberliga NO-NE, so you'll have to fight and scrap to get up.
I'd love to see at some point Union and Sachsen (there are a couple guys who bring a Sachsen flag to every Union game, so I've always had a soft spot for Sachsen) up in the Bundesliga. Might take 10 years, but we'll get there.

The 'Ossis' continue their good showing this year so far -- East German clubs lead the 2nd BL and the RL North, and only Jena is currently in the relegation zone.

yes, it is quite sad, especially since FC Sachsen gets to play in the absolutely beautiful Zentralstadion to crowds of....a couple thousand. :( My few friends here who I watch football matches with won't even go to the home games because they are Werder fans and consider paying to see a 4th league team below them (I think the exact words I heard 2 nights ago from one of them was "You are still trying to convince us to go to that crap?").
Do you know any people here who wouldn't mind putting up with a crazy American tagging along to the games? I'll even wear green & white. ;)

Well, I've heard tha Red Bull is seriously considering buying FC Sachsen (and probably investing a lot of money to make them more successful), so it will be good for them to have some local competition for FC Red Bull Leipzig. :D

They can't buy and rename them though, as this isn't allowed :D.

Cottbus supporters unite!
Oh, guess that's just me for now.
They're doing reasonably well, I think, all things considered.

East German clubs still going strong! No one in the relegation zone, with several good promotion prospects in the 2nd and 3rd divisions. Jena especially is looking very respectable, all things considered - probably the smallest market club in either the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga. Hard to believe they were in the Oberliga two seasons ago.
1. Bundesliga
12. -- Energie Cottbus -- 16 pts
2. Bundesliga
2. -- Hansa Rostock -- 32 pts

6. -- Union Berlin -- 27 pts
8. -- RW Erfurt -- 26 pts
And for the one you've all been waiting for... ;)
Bezirksliga Leipzig
2. -- 1.FC Lokomotive Leipzig -- 29 pts

Yippee! So there are two East German team followers here in the past what - 2 to 3 months? Well, you have to start somewhere. Cottbus has now fallen to 13th, but that's been a pretty good number for me, so I hope it will be for them also, and now they will rocket up the table (we can all dream).
Energie!!!
Sidenote: Got my first Cottbus Trikot on ebay. Tough to find Germans who use PayPal though. Still gonna keep collecting them, however.

If it has to be one please not Union. Anything - SSV or Tasmania, but not Union:(
Magdeburg's stadium is finished:
