It's a kool game, me and my friends sometimes put $20 each and play a tournament(round robin) and winner takes all. If there was a way to play it online with people all over the world,,, I would in a heart beat.
It does have online play.

Bump.
I'm still playing on 9, and every time I tell myself I'm tired of it, I get back on and my grades start to magically drop.
I figure that most of us play with Liverpool, so I was just wondering what formations you typically use and how you're doing, etc.
Here's my first choice (I'm in the second year, first year in D1* after rolling through D2):
--------------Reina--------------
Finnan-Carragher-Hyppia-Riise--
------------Alonso------------
Gerrard-----Myself------Kewell
-------Garcia------------------
-----------Morientes----------
I should point out that I'm not using option files or anything, explaining why Morientes is there to begin with.
Yes, I did create myself - and I'm an unbelievably talented attacking mid with sublime dribbling skills who's somewhat lacking in front of goal. But my progression charts show me being unbelievable by the time I reach full maturity.
Morientes has turned out to be fantastic - he's scored 13 goals at the midway point in the season.
My most frequently used subs are Maicon (I picked him up as he was untied in the game, and I rotate him with Finnan), Whitbread (I'm looking for a central defender in the current transfer window), Zenden, as a general utility player, Gonzalez, since Kewell tires out so easily (Gonzo takes fantastic free kicks as well, scored three or four), and Talcami to back up Garcia, who I picked up from Fenerbahce (I think) in a swap for Cisse.
I list Gerrard and myself as attacking mids, and Garcia is a support striker.
We're currently sitting fourth in the table halfway through, pretty much even with Manchester United and Arsenal, and look poised to make the semis of the D1 cup after thrashing Newcastle in the first leg. Chelsea is pretty much running away with the league.
*I played a good four seasons with St. Etienne previous to this, but stupidly shut off my console while the game was saving, since I'd forgotten to run training, and I had a new forward who I really wanted to get some training. It's dissapointing, because I'd built a mediocre team into a solid contender, and then wasted it. I decided I didn't want to rebuild them again, so I used Liverpool in my second go.

It's always tough for me to play with Liverpool, b.c I get _extremely_ frustrated when I can't win with them. I am playing the newest PES and play it on the highest level. It tends to get frustrating at times, much like real life. :(
I usually play...
Finnan --Carra -- Agger-- Riise
Sissoko Alonso
Gerrard ----- Kewell
Kuyt ---
--- Bellamy
Gerrard and Kewell stay ahead of Momo and Xabi and work inside out when in possession. [i.e. - arrows pointed to corner flags] Alonso always hangs back as I have him listed as DM, and his arrow is straight back. Sissoko always rampages forward through the hole and Kuyt is a great shallow target.
The formation works great early on in games. I can always seem to jump out to a quick 1-0 or 2-0 lead. But the game tends to get stupid and make every shot I take hit posts or defender's arms. Then I get anxious give up one goal and they're all over me for the rest of the game. :o

Other teams I like to use are:
Valencia - The team is stacked.
Marseille - I like Ribery and M'bami.
Turkey - For some reason I am unstoppable playing a 4-1-3-2 with them.

I should probably make the switch to winning eleven cause i really hate fifa right now. but my starting eleven in my third season into my manager mode is slightly altered because of buying and selling.
Reina
Alves-Carragher-Agger-Clichy
SWP-Alonso-Gerrard-Kewell
Kuyt-Villa
Subs: Hyypia, Sissoko, Anderson (from Porto), Auerelio, and Theo Walcott
In another manager mode season I created myself, I am a stocky forward in the Wayne Rooney mold. Basically everything that I am not when I touch the ball, well I am kind of stocky.

Don't wait any longer to make the switch. You'll wonder why you ever put up with FIFA.

Well, FIFA looks pretty, if that's your thing. ;)
I still remember the first time I played WE5. What a difference.

No, I'm talking about a long ball from free play about 30-40 yards out. Unless it's out to the side, it's pretty much impossible to play a long ball near the goal.
Have you worked this out yet? I've been getting significantly better. But direct free kicks are still a pain b.c even when I hit it perfect the keeper covers it easily.

Yeah, I've improved my ability to pace the balls alot (having someone like Alonso helps too), and I'm smarter about when to play them - there's really no point in playing a long ball unless there's only two defenders or so. Also, just angling towards the wings helps out alot.
I've really become good with the free kicks, direct and indirect. I just got done with a 2-2 draw with the Mancs, where I scored on an indirect from Gerrard on the left to Morientes's head. I can also usually get the ball on goal on directs, and can draw a corner quite often, and have even scored a few.

Still on WE9, but a fantastic game none the less. Anyone know when WE10 comes out here in America? I created my own team in Master League

I've really gotten over the whole issue of licensing. Video games are inherently unrealistic, and with gameplay that good, it's easy to ignore that the domestic cup doesn't include teams from all divisions.

Since the winter break, I've drawn four matches, won two, and lost one after being two goals up, to Charlton (who also happen to be ahead of me).
This is pissing me off, and I need to beat Arsenal at Anfield today to salvage something out of this season (I'm currently fifth).
Note: Has anyone noticed that they put the away support at Anfield ("Red Cauldron") in The Kop? I throw up in my mouth everytime I see the stand half full with some other side's flag rippling in the air.

Yea, and it is the same in the next edition... :o

I wonder if it has something to do with licensing. Because at Highbury, they put the away fans in the clock end, which I know wasn't the case (and would be looked on unfavorably by any Arsenal supporter).
And speaking of Arsenal, I beat them 2-0 today (they're second in the table). My home form is completely inconsistent with my away form, which sounds quite familiar.

all i have to say is i've been playing fifa since 2000 (fifa 2001), and well my roommate in university is from Poland and he brought Winning 11 and man have i gotten hooked...i still play Fifa, but any chance i get to play Winning 11 with him i go for it...its like our daily little rivalry
definitely go for winning 11 if u have the chance, or at the least try it out, the game play wont disappoint, plus the options on how to manage your players on the pitch is amazing the depth they go into

I beat Chelsea 2-0 in the D1 Cup semis, so now I'm in the final with Arsenal.
I might grab third in the league too, as I've really improved my form lately.

I'm still playing Championship Manager from the 01/02 season... I don't have a console anymore, and I haven't bought a game in a few years. I suppose I could upgrade to a newer version. Anyone else still play the all text version of Champ Manager?

Seriously, buy Winning Eleven now.
So I'm in my second year in D1, nearing the end, and I just lost to Chelsea 1-0 in the WEFA championships final. Carragher let Hernan Crespo get behind him and the line didn't pull up. Lampard dinks one over and Crespo one touches it past the reach of Reina. Probably played better, but didn't get the deserved result. Did have the top goalscorer (Morientes), top assist man (Garcia), and top overall player (myself) in the tournament though.
We're also tied with Chelsea for the lead (I'm ahead on GD, though) with 3 or 4 games left to go in the season. Hopefully we can get just revenge for the final.
Planning on moving up to 5 stars next year. Nearly have the team I want. Just need to get rid of a few pieces of dead weight and find a young striker that will fill in for Morientes when he finally fizzles out.
