View Full Version : The US mainstream media's thoughts on MLS All-Stars beating Chelsea
the equaliser

Now I know it was only an exibition game but watching it here on the Australian ESPN it seemed like both teams were really trying to play and win regardless of the situation.
I thought the MLS All-Stars did very well deserved their win and played some great attacking football.
I was wondering though how the mainstream American sports media reported the game and it's build up??
Did they ignore it?
Or did they give it the attention a high profile friendly fixture like this one deserved??

Some say it was a just result being that MLS was in form and Chelsea are just coming back off vacation. Regardless, MLS showed quality that can't be ignored and Chelsea, no matter the result, can always say it was just a friendly and the score didn't matter. I will say the perception in the USA of Chelsea is that this squad, the Yankees (Most expensive basebll club in the USA considered an allstar squad) of the soccer world, should be able to handle a squad that consisted of a total of players that can't even match the wage of ONE Chelsea player I think. The fact that MLS beat Chelsea at all, even giving a good show of it in controlling long stretches of the game itself, speaks more volume about MLS and its players than commercials and sponsors for some of the average sports fan people.
As for what the media here says? One guy says MLS are still chumps, another guy says were making progress, I think all know we shouldn't look too far into this but its always fun to beat some of the best in the world.

in my paper i saw a small mls box that had the score MLS 1- 0 Chelsea
maintstream media...well let's just say I had no clue the game was happening if i was a casual soccer fan and no clue it has taken place already as well
so really there is no mainstream media unless you dig up stuff and purposely go out of your way to find it which isn't mainstream

Actually, they ignored it like they deemed it deserved.
