I might as well open the discussion, since it is going to happen anyway.

Yesterday, Peter Nowak showed us how to bring players together for a common goal and inspire them to play above themselves against a top team.

Let's see... where might that come in useful?

Granted, our side looked a little out-classed on the field, but they played with heart, grit, and determination, which would have made a huge difference if another certain team were playing in another certain tournament recently passed with the same level of bulldoggedness.

Nowak would be great for a two-year stint as head coach, until Klinsmann becomes available (which will only be AFTER the next Euro cup).

Thoughts? Comments? Snide remarks?

I logged on to start this thread!

It has been an intriguing possibility for awhile and his handling of the all star is just another positive on his side of the ledger. The fact that they played such an attractive, aggressive game is another.

Nowak needs a few more seasons, then he could be a contender.

Why? He's going to learn something revolutionary?

He's ready now. I think he'd make a fine coach, but then so would Klinsmann.

As much as I like Piotr, he still has a long way to go. This is his third year as a coach. There's no reason to rush his development. If you think that he knows everything there is to know about getting the most from his players, modifying tactics during the game, communicating, etc. - I disagree.

He'll have his time. give him time to grow.

Klinsmann very publicly turned downed offers from everyone in Germany to stay on as head coach-- from the Chancellor down to the national team water boy. He also insisted quite vociferously that the USA job held no draw for him.

If he were to take a new coaching job now, before the next German side plays in the Euro cup, he would immediately go from 'hero' to 'zero.' The man still has a long career ahead of him-- he is not just going to vanish. And he is smart. He is going to pick his next job very wisely. If the US plays their cards right, we might get him. But I could also see him coaching another 'upstart' side, like Japan or Australia.

So don't look for Klinsi to start coaching for us any time soon. But I am keeping a German flag handy, just in case.

He's not going to grow in the small pond of MLS against coaches like Steve Sampson. He needs to step up a level, start taking on teams like Mexico, Costa Rica etc.

A world class coach is not going to suddenly take over the US national team, Nowak's probably the best you're going to get.

Well, Nowak is certainly as qualified as Arena when he took over the USMNT. I would not be dissapointed with Nowak, but he would be a fall back choice for the federation.

Good job from Nowak. Credit to Kinnear and the San Jose/Houston players as well.

Yes. Question. How did you determine that from a game in which there were 2 or fewer sliding tackles? Grit? Determination? BS. It was a practice game, folks.

Because it was the years of seasoning that made Klinsman so good . . .

I think you need to throw Yallop's name into the mix.

Klinsi is a good choice (why not?), but he's hardly proved himself a consistent, winning coach over the test of time. Same for Nowak.

I still think the Klinnsman deal is in the bag. He's taking several months off, and will accept the position after Germany has played a qualie for Euro 2008.

If I'm wrong, then you go Nowak or Yallop.

And look where Arena left us. Bruce was in over his head in the second WC cycle.

My only reservation about Nowak is that 2-1 loss to RSL. But, I think given the talent Pool the US has..there won't be any horrible brainfarts that allow the US to lose to Jamaica on 2 penalties.

But Nowak has more coaching experience, but Klinsi has more international experience.

BTW, if Nowak loses out on the job, DC will win the title.

Again Klinsmann hasn't proven himself over the test of time (such as Hiddink, etc.)
