this exact situation is where a smoking habit and a smoke friendly facility are so nice...So, about moving back to Columbus...
Actually, this week's cover story in The Other Paper was about the smoking ban and how it has possibly produced more outside drinking setups, like a patio.

While I understand that today's all star game occurs in Chelsea's pre-EPL preparations, is it really "fair" for Chelsea and others to lament Chelsea's lack of "match fitness?" I mean, didn't sixteen of their players just get back from some decent-sized soccer tournament? I'm sure some of their players might not have been full-bore working out throughout the summer, but the comments I've been reading and hearing make it sound as if Chelsea's players had an entire off-season of working part-time jobs as truck loaders and need to get back into shape.

Have I mentioned that I totally loved it? I did. Much more enjoyable than the Fulham game last year.

I wish Jeff Cunningham would have been an all star. He's one of only two ex-Crew players, off the top of my head, that I miss.

The funniest part in all of the "fitness" comments is that it's almost even more embarrassing to lose to the MLS All-Stars because it's a bunch of guys that don't play together year 'round (yes, I know there were eight DC players out there, but not on the field at the same time.)

And come on, professional athletes of today are much different creatures than those of thirty years ago. These guys stay fit like machines year round.

I just got an email from an Alabama fan that lives in Almaty, Khazakhstan. He's coming to the first two games this year and then going back to Khazakhstan. (The guy is American, but he said he misses football.)

This is mostly for hang, but I'm sure others can appreciate it, too. Stephanie and I went to 5:00 Mass today; that's not our normal Mass, but we went tonight for various reasons. Anyway, we had a visiting priest, a guy originally from a small Italian city. He was here to talk about a program within the Church he helped start called From Mission to Mission, an organization that helps missionaries integrate back into society when they return from their missions, as well as helping them take what they've learned and experienced and integrate it into their vocations.
He told the story about a priest that visiting his city when he was ten-years-old. That priest brought with him postcards he purchased when on a mission in Africa. The young boy - today's priest - was completely enthralled, and decided that when he was old enough he wanted to go to Africa to "see the lions, really." Eventually the young boy - today's priest - is ordained and serves numerous missions to Africa, including Uganda.
While in Uganda, today's priest ends up working with the priest who visited his city those years ago, the priest who inspired him to become a priest and a missionary. They work together and feel blessed to cross paths, almost as if it were meant to be. One day soldiers come from nowhere and - well, no details from today's priest - take his mentor and inspiration away and kill him when he refuses to renounce his faith and his involvement with certain rebel groups (at least that involvement was hinted...).
He also saw other martyrs, too, he said. I couldn't imagine seeing anything like that, no matter your station in life, and trying to go about the rest of your life.
