Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has stoked the fire - as if it needs stoking - claiming that he will be 'interested' to see if Arsenal can fill their 60 000 seater new Emirates stadium if they hit 'bad spell'.

Sir Alex turned up the heat in the constant war of words with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger by saying:

"I won`t miss Highbury. I think it was a run-down stadium. The pitch was too small for top-class football teams and I think it helped Arsenal in Europe in particular.'

'Moving to a better stadium will help them in the sense that the games will be better and there will be more room to play. It will be interesting to see what happens when they hit a little bit of a bad spell, whether they`ll still be able to get 60,000 through the gates.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Run down? Oh dear you senial fool. Highbury was one of the most clean stadiums in the country... and it didn't smell of piss, unlike OT did when I was there. The changing rooms were excellent and always ahead of their time in terms of being kept up to date. The concourses were physically accessible for the fans unlike at OT where trying to get your half time burger (or bottle of whisky in red noses case) was a futile task. No wonder OT smells of piss if you cant go for a Jimmy Riddle at HT because you cant move. The Art Deco east stand was one of the most beautiful sites in football, unlike the plastic, generic, concrete jungle that Utd play in. As for filling it up at AG, we could of sold out twice over for DB10's testimonial. Our first game of the season (Aston Villa) sold out in 20 mins of going on sale to red members. When we played at Wembley (a similar concrete jungle that smelt of piss, just like OT), our lowest attendance was 71,500 against AIK Solna. Man UTds first 2-3 games with a possible 70,000+ attendance didn't get near that mark... and Utd were playing well at that time. Arsenal's season ticket list has been cut down to 30,000 with AG opening, whilst getting a season ticket at Man Utd couldn't be easier due to lack of intrest.

Hi, Alex!

go easy on the old dude... he needs to distract the media from the fact that:
1. RVN left the team
2.his team LOST to Preston 2-1 in a preseason friendly
3.and then had his "star player" and Scholes sent off in the friendly against Porto....

Old age seems to have finally caught up with Alex. He hasn't won a trophy in 2 years, all his favourite sons have spat in his face and left the club, he didn't even make it past the group stage in the CL last year and it is rumoured that OT has some adverts to fill the stadium up to capacity for the season and there he is talking about Arsenal's new stadium.

Dear Alex,

Your supporters club is at war with the ownership. You just lost your top striker, and your other top striker was sent off in the World Cup thanks to your star winger, who also looks set to leave. And, on top of that, you just paid 16 million GBP for Michael Carrick.

And you think WE might have trouble filling our ground?

Sincerely,

Arsene

On a related note, I went to see "Talladega Nights" today. The theater across from the one I was in had an LED sign that read "The Decent".

Nope, its a special word just for RedNose, it's a combination of senile and in denial, just like the man himself. ;)

Is this a new word for dyslexic? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Sir Alex, as usual, makes a very good point. Can you prove him wrong?

yea. many people were disappointed when trying to get tickets for DB10s testimonial, which was a friendly. all tickets that have gone on sale have been sold out in no time. when at highbury, its a known fact that thousands were disappointed when trying to get a ticket to games. alex ferguson is just trying to take the attention away from his clubs own woes

A testimonial for one of your greats and tickets sold before a ball is even kicked? Fairly irrelevant considering we are talking about what happens when you go through a bad spell of form.

we shall see what happens. but as a man utd fan, u shud be more worried about your boss talking about other clubs stadiums when he shud be far more worried by his own club

Of course not. We can't disprove his claims until they fail to come true.

He made the claim, he or his supporters must substantiate it. The real question is: can anyone provide any foundation for his remarks? Can anyone show that Arsenal's support is soft, that the fans are fickle when the team is not doing well?

Last year in the League we stunk on ice, but that didn't seem to deter the fans from coming out to watch them play.

As for his claims about Highbury, he's entitled to his opinion. But we did pretty well on the road, too. So at least one of his opinions will be hard to back up with facts....

I could be wrong on this, but didn't they fail to sell out at least one CL game last year? If so, he has no business talking about any other club filling the seats.

Usually the person making such a comment as SAF is the one who one would think....would provide some sort of support for such a statement. Not a surprise that you wouldn't know that.
