I think this thread is overdue. I love the "What Are You Listening To?" thread but it would be nice to actually hear some of these songs people are enjoying.

So, here's how this can work, if you come across a song on the internet that you are enjoying, post a link to the download here. Then put a brief description of the tune in the post.

If you want to share a song but don't know of a link to it, try using these mp3 search engines:

The Hype Machine (http://hype.non-standard.net/)

Elbows (http://elbo.ws/)

They both work the same way. You enter a band or song title in the search box. The results will show you a series of links where you can find mp3 files of that song or band. Then you go to that site, copy the link for the mp3 file and post it back here.

You should also post is a link to a site where someone could buy the album if they like what they've heard.

To get it started, here's a cover of Elvis Costello's "Beyond Belief" by Nashville's underground alt-country superheroes Lambchop.

Matador Records has two tracks from Yo La Tengo's upcoming new album up on their site. "Beanbag Chair" is a little pop gem with piano and trombone while "Pass the Hatchet..." is more along the line of YLT traditional sound. Dark atmospheric drone rock that goes on for ten minutes.

I'm a big fan of Stones Throw (http://www.stonesthrow.com) records, the "underground" hip hop label that's the home of Peanut Butter Wolf, MF Doom, Madlib, J Dilla, Oh No, and a whole slew of artists.

Peanut Butter Wolf (http://www.stonesthrow.com/pbwolf/) is an incredible DJ, and he's made his 666 Mix (http://www.stonesthrow.com/pbwolf/666mix.html) available for download as an MP3 (http://www.stonesthrow.com/jukebox/wolf_666.mp3). He mixed it on June 6th, 2006 (666, get it?) and it consists of a whole bunch of "death rock" artists, like Slayer, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Black Sabbath, Sepultura, etc. Well, you get the idea. But you'd have a better idea if you listened to it.
