There are 3 main regions that come to mind when we thing of Automotive Engineering, The US, Germany, and Japan. Each have their distinct style, and qualities. Germany is by far on top, I dont mean to sound like a BMW or Benz fanboy but if you see some of the stuff being made by BRABUS or AMG, you would be surprised because their technology is on a different level comparied to the rest of the world.

I want to know what each countries philosophy is when it comes to building cars. I want to know how they approach designing an automobile when it comes to style, performance, comfort, fuel efficiency, safety ect. What does each region value more and what makes each region so special.

All I know is that for the U.S. automotive industry, handling always seemed to take a backseat to power. Using cheap materials was the order of the day. I don't think much has changed, but they're trying.

Not that I have any facts to back this up, but I think a lot our engineering shortcomings are influenced by the motorsports that tend to be most popular here. No one's going to argue that an F1 car handles ten times better than a NASCAR.
