All this NBC talk makes me wonder if anyone remembers the 2000 Olympics. It makes me laugh too.

Wouldn't this mean the USOC, also? That tournament is run (ahem) by the USSF, right? So, couldn't they negotiate those games as well into the contract. I know that FSW is showing some of this years matches, including the semi's and the finals. And, they showed them last year as well.

Hell, I would even go to NBC for free if the other conditions of the contract were the same as the current deal. As long as they promoted the league better than ESPN, let MLS share in ad revenues, and gave it a few weekly time slots, with at least one evening game.
That would make it different from the current deal, wouldn't it?

Posting the same info twice doesn't make it twice as relevant.

what should the ussf be looking for here?
money?
extra half hour time slots?
better time slots?
personally, i would say the latter two
i would love to see an extra half hour on every national game... a few prime time, or close to prime time... all live
money would be ok, but i don't think that will really promote the sport as well as good time slots and length

USSF needs to insist on Max Bretos as the lead announcer.

i dunno... i mean the ussf seems to be doing ok with money, i would think that a more professional show would help in drawing more people in
more production, pre & post game discussion, better cameras

Given that no one else in the US really does a whole lot of soccer, I don't know if anyone else could do a better job than the Disney people.
There's the misisng link - no one has shown any inclination before at making a serious commitment to soccer in this country. What leads anyone to believe that a network would get ga ga over the MNT matches knowing that they have no shot at doing the World Cup at the end of it?

i tend to agree with you, i would love it if the ussf could simply turn this around and get larger timeslots from disney... use the other networks to get what they want from disney (hopefully)
i tend to like the fact that we have a good amount of national games on the espns, i don't think i would necessarily like it if we didn't have those... then again, maybe there is an arrangement that would work better for ussf, i really don't know

It would...if we were no longer paying a station to put our games on. That would save a few million right there, and with a network like NBC (or whoever) they would presumably have better timeslots available for sports, with the lack of other sports coverage.
