Featuring Heath Ledger as The Joker (http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/01/film.ledger.reut/index.html)

Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan return.

I don't know if I read it somewhere or if I just made it up in my own head, but I had thought Johnny Depp was in the running to play the Joker -- which could have been great. But we'll see.

That's just beyond retarded.

I just made that up (to differentiate between the two Batman film series) -- I'm pretty sure the film will be called "The Dark Knight"

The Dark Knight sounds much better. I hope Oldman is in this one too.

Heath Ledger is a decent choice, certainly better than the other rumoured actors for the role. ledger has the square face, the round eyes, and I can imagine his grin, with make up and frizzy hair, and it might just work. He'll just have to work on his voice, much like Bale had to work on his.

His name was mentioned but the 2 most talked about were Paul Bettany and Crispin Glover. But that was all fan speculation.

I read they wanted somebody closer in age to Bale and Ledger comes in ahead there.

I'm a bit wary of him playing the Joker but he does have some acting chops so we'll have to see what Nolan can do with him.

Oldman is such a great Gordon. He just owns the role.

Personally, I'm loving this more authentic version of Batman. The previous movies just got too damn far away from the comic, IMO. And Bale is a great Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I'm very much looking forward to The Dark Knight.

I loved the first one, but just can't picture Ledger as the Joker; he doesen't seem to fit the role at all.

That's what I thought. Well, we'll find out I guess.

I remember hearing a rumor that Nolan's dream casting was Sean Penn, but that was just a rumor. Depp would have been great, but is there anything he isn't good in?

I think how Ledger fares will depend mainly on how the character is written.

same here. but I was skeptical of Nicholson, too. great actor, sure. but I didn't think he was the right actor, either.

of course, I can't say that I've ever seen any of ledger's movies, so what the hell do I know?

Maybe if Ledger was playing Robin.

I still think Tim Burton's Batman was the best version (not Batman Returns). But hey, that's my personal opinion.

I also think that Heath Ledger (if cast for the role) would be a bad choice. The playing card that Gordon showed Batman at the end of Batman Begins shows a spindly, skinny elasticated individual.

Such a role shouldn't be cast by a guy with broad shoulders and a large forehead, should it?

As mentioned in previous posts, Sean Penn would be perfect, as would Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp and, if Calista Flockhart was a guy, then her too.

so they should cast a part not based on acting talent but on who resembles a playing card? seriously? that's your beef? you know, I say run with this one. it's got legs. :)

I have to agree with Ringo that was probably the most hysterical post I've read in a long time!!!

But I digress, I think Heath might be a great choice, in previous work he had the frizzy hair that the Joker has. He has a fit body, and certainly the acting experience.

And if nothing else I have a lot of faith in Nolan.

That's how I was with Christian Bale being cast as Batman for the first one, but that all changed when I actually saw the movie.
