Right then you lot, I've been raving about the kid in my reserve reviews since I first saw him. You've had the chance to peep him in some capacity against opposition of a level he hasn't faced before. What do you think of him thus far?
It's not a surprise to me he's being raved about on most United forums, but it is nice to see him come in and play to the standard he has for the reserves. I still feel it is a total waste for him to be going to Antwerp. He should be loaned out to a colaship side or a Dutch one. He (and Evans) are too good for the league they are being sent to and unlike the others (Campbell, Simpson etc) they are big lads who are already premiership ready in terms of physique. I've even read a few posts were people are hoping Gibson gets to play for us this season! (It would not surprise me to see that happen)Maybe that is too early for the lad, his game is raw, unrefined for now, but after 4-6months on loan it may well be feasible.

He'd done well this pre-season, definitely living up to the hype. I'd like to see him go out on loan to Colaship, and then brought back to OT in January.

Yeah I think the idea of bringing him back in January has some merit, especially if he does really well on loan. Antwerp may not be the best but they have to be doing somethings right if Martin can now cross consistently.

That's a very good point. Perhaps I am down on them because it's the Belgian 2nd division (ffs) but there is no doubt that Martin has come back a different player (he actually has an end prodcut, he can cross, really well now, it seems  where he was a dire crosser in the reserves) so you may well be on to something.

I'm not so sure about Darron Gibson, but I think that Darren Gibson might be onto something.

Yeah, I liked what I saw from Gibson in the Macclesfield friendly. Big lad. Also was called up(McShane too) for the Ireland U-21 Euro qualifier against Greece on the 16th:

Interesting... who does he play for then, cos there is no Darren Gibson at United.. ;)

He'll be in your full team before this time next year. Will Staunton play youngsters?

Oops... never noticed that before now. Just thought that was weird.
He does look class though - I think Antwerp is the best bet for him for a couple reasons.
The Colaship will do him no good, Prem teams won't play him any minutes and NEC is unlikely to give him serious time in the middle. I think a half season loan to Antwerp where he'll get some exposure will do him good. If he can hone his game in the manner Martin did it will be excellent. If we need some CM depth after the break we can bring him back and use him as cover.

Well its understandable, since you did misspell "van Nistelrooy" in your sig. ;)

Not many opinions being offered here.. don't more people have something to say?

He seems good, though I lack Setanta (come on, Dish...) so I haven't gotten to see much of the preseason tour. I think a lot of us are in the same boat, without a lot to say about the kids because quite frankly we've only seem limited amounts of them. Sorry. :o
But if he is as good as he's being made out to be, and Fergie can see that, then I'd love for him to get a shot in CM. Until we sign someone with a bit of steel, that spot remains up for grabs, and Gibson seems as good a choice as any. Although I have to admit I'm slightly reluctant to hail him as the second coming after matches against Orlando Pirates and Macclesfield Town.
I guess its much the same in US sports, how I get tired of seeing a kid sizzle in college or the minor leagues and then suck totally at the pro level. Not that I don't try my best to keep up with the up and coming talents. It's just... well I'll believe that they're going to be big stars only when I see them perform at the highest level. Maybe I'm a little cynical that way.

At this time, is he ready to be picked ahead of Fletcher and O'Shea? They may be crap (according to some) but they are proven Prem performers. It seems clear the Gibson will eventually pass these guys but I get the feeling that he is not yet ready to take that step.

I think he'll be willing to give people their chance if they're ready for it performance-wise. Centre-mid is a bit of a weak spot for us now so that could either bode well for youngsters like Gibson (in that they'll get a chance to show their stuff) or badly (in that Staunton might want to solidify the area with a settled partnership, which could be formed too soon for Gibson).

I think McShane, and Martin are more ready than Gibson. In retrospect, the latter has also been doing extremely well and certainly looks PL ready. But how many youngsters from the reserve is Ferguson willing to take along with him this season?

I think ultimately this is the decider question. I just don't see Ferguson taking Rossi, Martin, D Jones, and Gibson for the whole season or even half the season. With the pressure to keep pace with Chelsea I just don't think the young guys will get a chance until they are really ready. I think Martin might only get a shot because quality back up for left wing is thin.
In reality Gibson is probably at least 1 to 2 seasons away from getting a chance.

I have some oppinions on Gibson. I think he is the young player that has impressed me most of all the kids this pre-season. As you said DS he looks physicaly ready to do what he has to in England. He dosn't make many misstakes, his passing is good, but most of all, and this is important. He imposes himself on the game when it is needed. He takes command and sees to that things happend. most notably so in the second half against Macclesfield when he was great.
I think that we'd want to loan him to Holland, but who'd take him? No one knows who Darron Gibson is outside the most devoted group of fans.
We want to get Antwerp out of the second division. IMO Gibson seems like the kind of player who could Lead a team if he had to.
He looks to have an air of confidence about him. Somehow I can't really doubt him. Everything he does just seems evidently right at the time. He's one of the most interesting characters coming out of the reserves in many years.
Right now I think the only thing stopping him from remaining at OT is D.Jones.. Jones deserves the chance to make it at OT, this is his season.. Gibson will get his chance, and I have a feeling he'll take it.

I posted about him after watching the Macclesfield match, my first real good look at him...impressed the hell out of me. I'd say he's still a ways down the list, but I expect good things from him. Colaship would be ideal, IMHO.:)
