Preposterous. It was on the edge of the box, but Cruyff was fouled. It was either a penalty or Hoeness is sent off for a professional foul (in which case the Dutch likely win at a canter), since he clearly fouled Cruyff in the process of a goalscoring opportunity. Beckenbauer didn't exactly argue the decision.
Hoelzenbein has all but admitted he "schwalbed" on Jansen's tackle to draw the penalty. By the standards of football in 1974 (much more physical than today), the foul was extremely soft.
Germany won because they took their chances a lot better than Holland did (cough Johnny Rep cough) but any idea that they were hampered by the referee is ludicrous.
in this days there was no rules to send off players who foul players in process of goalscoring opputurnity..and hoeness action looked for me not violent to send him off..the action was on the line or close outside..i dont know....jansens tackle was risko too, a little contact maybe ,but not really a must penaltyall, hölzenbein did fell a bit spectaculare, but so did cruijff......., but anyway müller was recalled a legal goal in minute 59 and in minute 89 hölzenbein was denid a penalty...you didnt comment this situations..

Hölzenbein never admitted anything. To the contrary, to this day he insists that he was fouled.

Horsesh!t on all accounts. Don't take my words for it, but rather the words of the German players of the day:
also admits to it being a legit PK call that he gave up (the one that Cabrini ended up missing). Bruno Conti says that Briegel was such a big man physically that it took very little for Briegel to floor him.
Have you ever even seen that world cup? That was most blatant dive I had ever seen until the 2006 world cup, not counting maradona or some recent Chelski antics(Drogba/Robben). Conti was the one that actually fouled Briegel. But yes, Briegel was at "fault" for that foul. He should not have put his hand up on him like that. That's what let him fake the dive and act like he was fouled. Conti wasn't fouled, but Briegel WAS responsible for letting him get a PK for a non-foul. Conti would have surely recieved a yellow for simulation these days as he writhed around on the ground for a minute like he was being dipped in acid.
That whole final was a joke. The first Italian goal of that game was clearly offside by a yard on the side-view replaysand seemed to be at least somewhat offside from the initial attack camera angle. A linesmen should have easily called and seen it, and the ref himself might have possibly been able to determine it as well, but definitely the linesman should. The second goal was also offside(SAME linesman , too). Even the commentators, moments before the goal, had said, "Oh that Looks like an offside, and Germany is now appealing for it... " Then one or two passes later after the obvious offside, Italy scored again. That's a possible 3 to 0 score just "given" to Italy because of "home field advantage" or just terrible officiating, however you want to slice it.

LOL. Kids are so cute at that age.
Sure sure.
I'm supposed to take YOUR word for it and not the words of the man in question (Briegel himself) ? The German team was so tired that they couldn't even stand up, LMAO !!!
LOL, who do you think you are ?

Just more revisionist history. Italy outplayed Germany that day. That's all.

hehehe, in 10 years from now we will be hearing about mysterious crossbars and goalposts that Germany hit and phantom goals taken away.
Nevermind that their own players admit to being so exhausted that they weren't even able to celebrate the missed PK.
unreal.
ps - and yeah I did see that game. The GREAT Bruno Conti was voted M.O.M. in that game too !

I agree with you.
It was a really a dive.
I was disgusted with that cheating at that time.

Hey Pabs,
Methinks that Zuras = Totallyemo = menominee
They all use the same modus operandi.
What do you think? Since nobody else agrees with their crazy arguments, perhaps he is creating multiple users that will agree with each other.
I wonder if someone could check the IP addresses of these posters.

Elver, indeed. You could be right.
And now we have this other douchebag "Power of Foot" who first discovered sawker after USA'94. Who's ideal of football is tugging the apron strings of England.
Remember people (Americans, Aussies, Germans), to succeed in this sport you have to do other things besides the usual:
"fielding the biggest 11 players you can muster up, attack through the wings, cross in the box, pray someone is there to head it in"
:) :)

yeah we cheated by outshooting Germany 10-2 and by finishing the game with 4 strikers :)
Damn Pirlo cheated too ! He looked one way and passed it the other way to Grosso for the goal. What a cheater !
that's OK. Germany still have a great record in Dortmund. Unfortunately you can't "big it up" as much as before. After we take away those results versus Northern Ireland, Wales, and the like, you have to play a good team sometime :)
Congrats to the genuine German fans and their team who disputed a fantastic WC. Germany are a great team, but so is Italia.

Remember when Germany was playing in the 1917 World Cup Final and Kaiser Wilhelm was coaching the Germans and a horse ran onto the field and ate the ball as a German player was about to score and then he ate the grass just as an Italian player shot on goal causing the ball to move more quickly and allowing a goal while just moments later an Italian sniper in the stands fired a shot causing the German goalie to hiccup which made it impossible for him to save the shot causing an unjust Italian goal and then Italy unjustly won but Germans deserved to win as an Italian dove out of the way of the horse who then began chewing on the goal net which caused a large hole to appear through which a German player fell while almost scoring which allowed the unjust Italians to unjustly win as they are very unjust people??? Remember???

You know, all this slagging aside, I actually commend Germany for playing such a great WC. I recall the Poland game where a point would have sufficed, but I appreciated them for being committed to attack and looking for the goal. It was excellent to see hardwork and preserverence pay off with Germany scoring at the end.
And considering how much heat the German team took in the buildup to their WC, especially after the skull-fuking in Florence by Italia 4-1. 3rd place is considered good for such a young team.
I know many people of German ancestory who are as classy as people as you will ever meet, both online on another message board I belong to and in real life.
hey, I know their bitterness. I too am bitter at not winning my home WC of 1990. But I do recognize that as worthy winners Italy would have been in 1990, Germany did their part to deserve it. I would never begrudge anybody of a WC win.

My sentiments exactly. Lived in Germany for 2 years and loved (and still love) the people and the country.

...and the best beer in the history of the world, of course. I've seen Bayern play live at least a dozen times. I hung out at least 2 nights a week at the Hofbrauhaus for 2 years. I got to drive on the autobahn. I ate schnitzel and spatzle and gulasch soup and dated a German girl. I love Germany! My responses are intended for those idiots whom I believe are not even German and perhaps have never set foot in the country. They know nothing about German culture. But they speak as "experts" on world football because they have read a book or maybe just an article or two about football. And worst of all, they pretend to know enough to try and cheat Italy of their World Cup championships. They cheat the players of their honor. And they try to cheat an entire nation of their hard earned glory. And that is just too sad.:o
(Please excuse my horrendous German spelling my German friends!);)
