The practice - Friday, August 4th at 5:30PM CT

The Game - Saturday, August 5th at 5:30PM CT

The Globe

NY Blues website reporting that after the game, The Globe will be having a Jam/Clash cover band play for all Chelsea fans, so it should be a good night out for all us aging punk rockers ! The Globe says the band will start around 9pm, there's no cover and they'll be having $3 beer of the month and daily specials.

Midwest Blues

Friday 8pm - Chelsea Quiz Night

Friday night at Fado's there will be a fun (and educational!) Chelsea quiz night. Teams of four will battle it out for prizes. Details to follow soon. Arrive early to ensure you get a table for your team! We do ask that teams are balanced so as to make it exciting for the newer Chelsea fans so would ask you don't load your team with four members who were all there the last time Chelsea got promoted from the old 2nd Division.

Saturday morning - Meet and Greet at Fado's

This is the opportunity to get a good breakfast inside you and meet some of those folks you have been chatting with online but have never met, or remake old acquaintances. Head to Fado's Pub any time Saturday morning, 9:30am through lunch time.

Bus Trip to the Stadium and Tailgate Party

Why bother fighting the Chicago traffic, parking and taxis when you can travel to the game in style, while at the same time re-enacting the Chelsea FC trophy parade? We have arranged for three open top London double-decker buses to take us on a "parade route" from Fado's in downtown Chicago to the stadium and then back again after the match. Buses will start to load and leave at 1pm sharp and will board on a first come, first serve basis so make sure you are at Fado's in plenty of time.

Furthermore, once at the stadium, join the Midwest Blues for a tailgate party with burgers, dogs, beer pop and all the usual tailgate fare while you mingle with the largest gathering of Chelsea supporters this side of the pond this year.

To reserve your bus and/or tailgate ticket please drop us a line with the following information:

Contact Info (http://www.chelseainamerica.com/USTour/activities.htm#Bus_Trip_to_the_Stadium)

How many you need
Bus + tailgate or tailgate only
Name and contact information (e-mail and phone)

Bus riders will be required to stop by Fado's and "check in" either Friday evening or Saturday morning to pay and receive your ticket for the bus and / or tailgate. Tailgate only folks can check in at the tailgate, starting about 2pm.

Other Fun Stuff

Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=chc)

Wrigley Field is the second-oldest ballpark in the majors behind Boston's Fenway Park (1912).

Cubs are in town all weekend with 1:20PM CT games on Thursday and Friday and Sunday. - I have 2 extra Bleacher tickets for Thursday - $150 for the pair. And no, you won't have to sit with me - its general admission ;)

King Tut exhibit at The Field Museum (http://www.kingtut.org/chicago/index.htm)

Since the discovery of his tomb in 1922, Tutankhamun has captured the hearts of people around the world.

"Buried with him were treasures beyond the imagination, giving us a glittering glimpse into the past," said Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities and director of the Giza and Saqqara Pyramids.

"It has been almost 30 years since the golden artifacts of the boy-king last left their home in Egypt. Now Tutankhamun is back, giving a new generation the chance to learn firsthand about the life and magic of this ancient monarch."

Tall Ships Chicago - August 3rd-9th (http://www.tallshipschicago.org/)

Chicago Architecture River Cruise (http://www.architecture.org/tour_view.aspx?TourID=8)

Marvel at Chicago’s soaring towers while enjoying a 90-minute, narrated river cruise. This tour spotlights more than 50 architecturally significant sites where you will discover a new perspective on the city. Come aboard either of our well-appointed vessels, Chicago's First Lady or Chicago's Little Lady, where both open-air and climate-controlled indoor seating will make your journey comfortable. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase on board each vessel.

Please feel free to add to this list. Especially you folks from Chicago.

I would check on that bus part. I think you have to have already RSVP'd for it by now. I could be wrong but I think there were a certain number of seats.

Thanks Eddie. I should be sorted either way, if public transport does in fact go there, which I didn't know.

The closest CTA stop is Midway Airport - there are others stops nearby on the Orange Line as well - and then I guess we could cab from there.

Map of Area with CTA stops (http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?name=&addr=W+71st+St+At+S+Harlem+Ave&state=IL&csz=Chicago%2C+IL+60638&ds=n&uzip=60638&mag=2&desc=&country=US&dma=602&cat=trav&resize=l&trf=0&lat=41.7627&lon=-87.8003&mlt=41.7627&mln=-87.8003&rezoom=1&.intl=us&addrtype=8&compass=&BFKey=put)

The Bus information was only changed this weekend - you couldn't reserve before hand, so I'm hopeful that there is still room - they are supposed to have 3 doubledecker buses.

the architectural boat tour is actually very good, even if you hate architecture. The boat goes along the chicago river so there's plenty to see and the tour guide also tells funny stories about the politics of why certain buildings were built and such. Not just a discussion of architectural styles.

public transport is the Orange Line to Midway and then a bus to the ground. I think they have a special shuttle bus for Fire matches that runs between Toyota Park and Midway.

i was looking at your bus route, if you are taking Ogden Ave from the Loop all the way out to Harlem you are going to go through some interesting neighborhoods.

I live in an interesting neighborhood, so I'm not too worried. ;)

But thanks for the info. I'm getting more excited for this now that I have everything booked heh.

i meant interesting as in not really safe. but it is during the day, so it shouldn't be a problem. I would just be wary about yelling things at random people!

i tried to get a ticket to the match with the Globe so I could take there buses, but they were sold out when I finally found out i didn't have anything to go. I'm hoping they get a few more tickets and I can go. Of course I'll have my Arsenal shirt on :D but it is fun meeting people from Big Soccer.

Unless I hear from someone soon, I'll have an extra to both the practice and the game, though in the Chelsea supporters section of course. ;)

here is a link provided by GP in the Arsenal off topic forum of aftershows that bands playing at Lollapaloza are playing. might be easier to get to one of these then the festival, because it might be sold out!

They'll spend some time going through Lawndale but I think they'll cross into Little Village before the hit the worst parts (i.e. K -Town). Should be interesting, plently of opportunities to engage in illicit conduct. Be careful of police stings though.

Edit: From looking at the "parade route", they may be taking the Stevenson Expressway - it's a bit unclear.

honestly, takeing I-55 (to Harlem) would be a lot safer, but again, it is during the day, so there shouldn't be any trouble.
