View Full Version : Anyone else want Chelsea to win the treble this season?

Hear me out:
I had hoped that Roman would be in jail by now for sundry crimes against humanity, but while we are still waiting for that to happen, I believe that the quickest way to get rid of Chelsea and their tremendous market inflation is for them to win the treble this season.
I am estate planning attorney for ridiculously wealthy clients, and if there is one thing I know about the ridiculously wealthy, it is that despite their wealth, they are objective oriented and do not like to lose money. They often give it away, to charities and family, but they do not like to lose it...to the government, the market, or what have you.
I honestly believe that Roman is objective-oriented. He must be losing millions each year with this team, and I truly believe that once Chelsea win the CL, his interest in forking over tons of cash will wane considerably, and he'll either try to run Chelsea as a profit oriented business, or sell much or all of his stake in the team and go onto something else.
To think that anyone, no matter how wealthy, will be interested for an indefinite amount of time just flushing money for his own amusement, is insane. And before anyone reminds me of just how much money Roman has, we have clients that have just as much (they don't own any sports franchises unfortunately), and they are not immune to losing money (or paying our bills, even) no matter how insignificant we might think it is compared to their overall wealth.

Okay, okay...I relent a bit. Not the treble. I don't think Roman cares about the treble anyway, I think he cares only about the CL. If Mourinho's haircut doesn't win the CL this season, it will roll with the rest of his head, and Roman will continue until the CL trophy is in West London.

I'd advise for people to actually read what he says. If a treble meant Roman Abramovich out of my life forever, then yeah.

Agreed, take your tainted spoils and go home.

In theory ya, it sounds good. Not that I want Chelsea to win the treble by any strech, but whose to say Roman would leave anyway? Ya he MIGHT get bored eventually, but they've been pretty successful already and he's shown no signs of slowing down. There have been no signs of him distancing himself from the club, so I'd be happier with them winning nothing as opposed to the treble.

Well, you'd do well to actually read what he says. I quote: "I honestly believe that Roman is objective-oriented. I know, I read it, and like it said, it sounds like it makes business sense (I'm no business guru so I'll take his/your word for it), and if he said after we win Europe, ya I'll leave, I'd be fine with them winning it and him leaving never to be heard from again, but he's done nothing to make that seem like it's the case. Like I said I think/hope he gets bored eventually and goes away, all I was saying is that I don't belive them winning the treble guarentees him leaving.

Well, as a planner for the rich, he's got at least a little more experience trying to do that kind of psychoanalysis than a schmo like you or me.
Sure I'd like to hear a little birdie tell me that Roman's definitely going after the CL, but if that's the happy side effect from a treble, sign me on.

Another theory holds that upon realizing his finances alone won't be able to make such rewards happen that he'll grasp the concept of futility and move on.
Would I sacrifice some trophies this season if it moved Chelsea back towards budgeting based solely on soccer revenues? Absolutely.
Do I expect that to happen sometime soon? Nyet.
What's more likely to happen before Chelsea wins a treble is to have them (sadly) regularly distance themselves from ManU and the others to the point where the league as a whole suffers from disinterest. A glorified version of the Portuguese league. Feh.
I hate dealing with this reality, personally, and just wish the man would die.

this is the "it has to get worse before it gets better" argument. Frankly, I don't know- Chelsea have put themselves in a double bind because if they DON'T WIN the EPL then they're pretty much a laughing stock, but if they do win, everyone knows why- Roman.
I just hope Arsenal kick their teeth in this season.

To quote the great philosopher Clint Eastwood: deserve's got nothing to do with it.
The person with the most money gets the best stuff. That's capitalism. My advice is (a) ignore 'em when they win, (b) laugh at 'em when they don't win, (c) cheer for the Arse regardless.
Oh, and (d) if we can get 25 million pounds for Ashley Cole, I'll pay his cab fare to the Bridge myself. Nothing against the guy, but if someone offers to pay you ten dollars for a five dollar bill, take the deal.

Instead of focussing on Chelsea, our players, team, ambitions, etc maybe you should try worrying about your own team. It's incredible for me to think that I would want another team to win the Treble. It's unforgivable to think such a thing. The title is anything but ours this year. There's a couple teams that could make a push and everyone knows that in the cup competitions, to win you need a great bit of luck on your side as well. It's an incredibly defeatist mindset to think Arsenal can't win anything until Roman f's off, I like to see it though but if I was an Arsenal fan I'd want you strung up or atleast in a Kangaroo Court.

Nobody said we can't win it, just that it's much more difficult to do so when you're competing against an opponent with virtually unlimited means.

I don't think its that difficult as its made out to be to take on Chelsea.
Chelsea = NY Yankees
Unlimited funds...
Well, maybe if we spent some ACTUAL money on ACTUAL PROVEN PLAYERS on occasion (one per season in Rosicky / Hleb ain't doing enough)... MAYBE we could make a legitimate run at them.
We were undefeated a few years ago, but did not improve the team. You stand still... you get passed by. Potential is NOTHING at times. How about a proven CB ... a proven midfielder with some BITE... and a proven striker.
If we brought those 3 players in... spend the money on them, not some triallist from wherever or an unknown from whateverland...
then I think we could make a serious RUN at the League Title.
Right now, we have no chance of winning the league with our injuries to start with... and the loss of talent and experience in Campbell, Pires, Bergy, and probably Cole. Lose those 4 and bring in Rosicky. Hmmmm... thats why we can't compete with Chelsea.
Chelsea will be CONSISTENT if nothing else. They have a lot of talent and are very deep... and that means even if a few players go down with injuries or struggle, they'll still play at a very high level.
We don't have to go crazy buying 30-something year old STARS... but some proven players are necessary on occasion.

But if they win it all, it may be a source of pride for him. He could say that he has the biggest yachts, the biggest houses, and the best team in football. I think that these oligarchs use the football clubs to legitimize themselves in the eyes of the public (at least that is what they think).
There is no telling when or if Roman will ever be done with Chelsea. I wish it would happen, but I don't see it coming around for quite some time.
