Starting up another one after the first series (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69688&highlight=just+so+cal+stuff) got closed.
Anybody been to Angelo's in Anaheim on St. College Blvd.? I've been there off and on. It's a great joint with fast food, beer and roller-skating waitresses.
I don't know if they have it still but during the Monday Night Football game, certain foods like burgers, fries and tacos are only $1. Fattening & artery clogging but it's cool.
First page.
I usually find myself (at least once a week) at Thai Rama off of St. College and Chapman, next to the BofA, Pizza Hut, and 99 cent store.
The place is hidden in the corner of the strip mall.
They have the best Thai soups around!
I will definitely be checking out Angelo's.

The best thai food is hands down in LA a little mom and pop place with like 8 tables no parking in the middle of hollywood. Completely family owned but damn good food. on the weekends their is a like outside the door. Oh and by the way the door is wood with a large pane window badly painted. Has character. I think it is on sunset (non glamiruos part)
No name?
I will head down sunset looking for buildings with badly painted window panes. :D
Seriously, if you go again soon pick up a business card and pass along the info.. I'd like to check this place out. I am always looking for a new eatery.

Why was it that 'they' meaning probably city, or state government prohibited that whole roller-skating waitress serving you in your car? I remember people said that a long long long time ago at that place they would actually serve you in your car. Though I do remember they had the little shorts.
Probably insurance I'm guessing

Why'd you have to start off right off the bat with food in the LA/OC area. I'm dying up here in SLO County with no Fatburger, no Dim Sum, no Korean barbecue, no Haitian (TiGeorge's rocks), very little Thai, very little good Mexican, no Cuban, no Brazilian, no Argentine, almost no Indian, no good fish n chips, no bacon-wrapped hot dogs, no authentic barbecue, and no cajun. We have plenty of good wine and crappy pizza though.

The NY Times travel section had a story on a taco road-trip from LA to SF--the writer mentioned a place named Chapala in Morro Bay.
Speaking of tacos, I've rediscovered one of my favorite LA taco places...I hadn't been in ages, but I went a few months ago, and if I'm ever driving on the Harbor or anywhere near Gardena, I immediately start salivating for tacos...the place is called El Antojito, on Figueroa and 168th Street. It's a taco truck parked at an converted old self-car wash place. They have great tacos, plus excellent ceviches, but I stick to the tacos. Even the cabeza is good, not too soft or chewy. 2 tacos and a bottle of Jarritos for about $3.

L.A. is missing a deep-dish pizza chain. Pizzeria Uno is all over the San Diego area but not L.A. for some reason. Some people suggest you try B.J.'s for deep-dish pizza. That is terrible. It is not "Chicago-style pizza." It is Pizza Hut-quality pizza with an only slightly thicker crust served in an elevated deep dish. It is not as thick or as good as real deep-dish pizza.

I think Moe's in SLO is a pretty authentic BBQ place. It ain't Memphis but what is?

JScott- I've been rockin it in Poway lately at this indoor/outdoor soccer facility you guys have up there. I missed the first 2 games but the last 2 we've won, and are making a push for the playoffs ;)

Not sure about the rest of you guys, but I prefer N.Y. stlye Pizza. I had deep-dish in Chicago and was not impressed.
Anyone been to Joe Peeps Pizza in North Hollywood? I believe their is also one in the city of Whittier.
The first time I tried Dim Sum I thought it was basically a buffet on wheels. :D

Mo's is ok, but it used to be better. It's walking distance from my office and I only walk there about once every three months if that tells you anything.

Yeah, I don't understand why deep dish is supposed to be a good thing--there's too much going on. Pizza should be a simple, beautiful thing. Speaking of which, I just went to Lamonica's in Westwood for the first time in ages last week...:D

I'm gonna make you more homesick: I went to the Red Car Brewery before the Open Cup last night and the chicken tenders & garlic fries were to die for!
Even had bacon-wrapped goodness after the match last night. Awesomeness!

Are you playing at NCSP or Sportsplex, and what nights? Men's, Coed? A young buck like yourself can play that game. Indoor is too hard on my knees and ankles the next morning, and that's with the latest synthetic grass. This old hack defender needs to play on the natural stuff. I think I'll go play at lunch today.
Speaking of indoor, has anybody been to the new Valley Boys Indoor Soccer facility in Woodland Hills?

That's my neighborhood. Didn't know anything about it. Where's it at?

I'm not sure what its called. Its past a Catholic church, there is a 711 nearby. We play on Sunday nights in the men's league. Sadly have to miss this weekend for the Barca game.

I'll take a crack at this . . . I'm not sure it's what you're speaking of but I'll try anyway --
On the NORTH side of Sunset a couple blocks east of Western is a brick-faced place called JITLADA. It's dark inside and it has a kickass authentic Thai menu, some of the stuff can get pricey but there's so much variety on the menu you can keep it cheap if you want to. There's no patio, however.
On the SOUTH side of Sunset, a few blocks further east is a place called SAMNAMLUANG (sounds just the way it's spelled . . .). This is really small, 10 tables and it's always packed. This place is very affordable and their soups are off the hook. They DO have a half-assed patio that spillls into an even more half-assed parking lot, holds about 8 cars and some spots are reserved by the Thai movie rental store (behave, Roksteddy) . . . This place is open well past midnight 7 days and they have a little stand outside so you can buy apps while you wait for your table. You can drink beers while you wait in the parking lot if you keep a low profile. It doensn't have a painted window in the door . . . but you can go here if you cannot find the place originally posted.

Yep, that hurts. I met the Rok in person for the first time at the Red Car, with my Yorkshireman Darren in tow. Unfortunately, that was the night mid-week match when the Metrosexuals smoked us 3-0, including 2 goals by Eddie "Alice Band" Gavin. To make matters worse, Gavin celebrated the second goal right in front of section 138. Apart from the humiliating loss and the Gavin celebration, it was a pleasant evening. Darren enjoyed the match but was amazed to see a football stadium surrounded by parking lots instead of rowhouses. Culture shock Carson style.
