So, it seems like one of these threads normally pops up around these parts closer to a month ago or so.
but, i haven't seen any, so...here we go.
I personally don't have my list entirely organized yet. I need to get on that.
What I do know, though, is that M. Ward, Beirut, and Jenny Lewis are definitley in the top 10.

most of the best albums I bought this year were all bands I just discovered but their records are more than a year old. so I guess they're out.
and I don't care what anybody says, but when it comes down to which album I enjoyed most this year ... hands down, it was the new Darkness album. Loved it. Matter of fact, I'm gonna go listen to it on my way to play soccer this morning. It took me a couple listens to get into it, but I got hooked.

I don't keep track of what's new or not, if the Arctic Monkeys album came out this year, it should be nominated.

Benevento Russo Duo: Play Pause Stop is my favorite so far. I've been somewhat disappointed in several of the new discs I've purchased this year. They're okay, but not up to the usual high standards of some of the artists.
There are several I'm looking forward to later in the year (Old Crow Medicine Show for instance) and several that have come out that I'd like to buy, but grad school is making me not be able to buy records at the pace I enjoy, so I'm kind of lagging behind this year on what's out there.

Haven't heard that many albums from this year. The new TV on the Radio is pretty decent. I heard that the new Sonic Youth is good also.

Band of Horses? Really? I mean, I'm eager for a new Shins album, too, but...
;)
Anyway, I nominate whatever Sufjan has come out with and the Team Band demo.

I feel poppy.
Oh so poppy.
'Makin Flippy Floppy,'
is how poppy
I feel . . . .
Tapes 'n' Tapes -- The Loon
Camera Obscura -- Let's Get Out of This Country
The Format -- Dog Problems
Lily Allen -- Alright, Still
Asobi Seksu -- Citrus
Hard-Fi -- Stars of CCTV
Neko Case -- Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
^^Not very pop, actually, and probably the best record of the year so far
M. Ward -- Post-War
^^ released in about 3 weeks; I've heard a few early tracks and those alone qualify it

Here's a post on my blog with some live video and some MP3s from the new record:

The sound is a little muffled on the video, but the vibe is there. MP3s are from the band site and are crystal clear.

I don't know how it stacks up against the competition this year, but "Rather Ripped" is the best Sonic Youth album since "Daydream Nation," and it's their most accessable album ever.

OK, so I always love seeing these threads pop up. It means I'm gonna check out some cool new music. After this list popped up, I even bought one of the CDs that I am enjoying very much.
The new Sufjan Stevens has a lot of good stuff on it. My friend actually lent me the Duo CD before this thread popped up but I do enjoy it a lot. Very good album.
Mojave 3 was a very pleasent surprise to me. Their song, "Ghostship Waiting" is my favorite from them so far. Same thing with The Format. I really like their songs, "Oceans" and "Dog Problems". "Pick Me Up" is also very good. I really enjoyed Lilley Allen's "Friday Night". The CD I went out and bought was Phoenix. Great CD and me and my friends drove down to the beach listening to it. It just puts you in a good mood. Maybe my next purchase will be Sonic Youth? Some of their songs have impressed me so far.
