United close to closing a deal for the 30yr old Villareal midfielder Marcos Senna, Just heard this on Sky sports although not much was said just that they would be getting updates.
He is not a bad player but if the are going to sign another midfielder in the 10.5m Euro range around £8m I think then why has fergie not gone for a young talented midfielder like Muntari or Fernandes for a similar price:confused: . Yes he has experience but look at the experience midfielders like Scholes & Giggs have in europe & the EPL.

The way Balague is speaking it sounds like a done deal. Hopefully he is wrong just like with the Torres rumours. Senna would be purely a stop gap and i think now when as it says in DS's thread we have spent very little money this preseason we should be going for a Yaya or a Mascherano. For me its very dissapointing news unless he is very cheap and used purely as back-up but i doubt that. Im dissapointed by Fergies lack of ambition to sign a top-notch DM if this goes through. Anyone who saw the Arsenal vs Villareal semifinal of the CL will know how poorly he played.

I think Senna would be a nice signing for us at the right price, for 4,5 million he'd be a definate improvement on our midfield, allowing carrick to push forward more. I was impressesd most times i saw him last year, he was very good against us and against everton and i dont remember him being that bad against arsenal. If the fee proves to be around 8milion i would question fergies wisdom of such a high price for a 30 yr old.
p.s any chance on a fernando torres U turn now ruuds gone?

Well, I could see that perhaps Mascherano may be a bit of an expensive option compared to Senna after the cash we have just shelled out on Carrick. My concern are the young talented players as you mentioned YaYa & I said Muntari Fernandes that we could have got for a similar price or less.
I don't see Senna as a bad player at all infact he had a good WC for Spain, but he was a bad signing considering the other options at a similar price. I am also sure that he looks like a better player in La Liga or playing internationally than he can be playing in the EPL.

we could have got maduro too rather than fernandez(some peaople have mentioned fernandez).imo,he is better.what about raul garcia from osasuna. But still senna would not be such a bad buy.

i think that if this deal goes through, fergie has one eye on the future, as buying someone like mascherano, garcia, oubina etc would definately hinder the prospects of someone like gibson....
PLUS im actually quite happy with this signing, as he's impressed me a great deal, and would allow the likes of scholes, jones, fletch, and to a certain extent, carrick to play further up the pitch and do what they do best....

as says we will pay his release clause of 8 million pounds.

Senna won't be a bad signing for Manchester United but from past experience old players who have come to Premiership have nearly always failed. Edgar Davids, Fernando Morientes are just two examples of this. Eight million pounds for a 30 year old player who probably flop and won't be there for the future is some gamble.

Talksport say deal is done for £7m. Would have preferred Mascherano. This deal is a cheap alternative. Not sure how good it is as Senna is 30.

I really know nothing about Senna... apart from position, team, age and nationality. He didn't make an impression when I saw Villareal last season but as a DMC that means nothing. But he's 30, and 7 mil is not what I'd pay for a 30 year old that havn't impressed me.
on the other hand. If the club is, I'm inclined to trust ther judgement rather than my own.

This is great!
Now we can sing:
Who the ******** is Marcos Senna?
Who the ******** is Marcos Senna?
Who the ******** is Marcos Senna?
He's a 30 year old re-tread midfielder from Villareal!

It's obvious that SAF wants to win Now... but for 7 mil.. is he worth it?
Also I've thought about the lack of DMC's coming from the reserves and realised that we'll never get the kind of destroyers we need from our youth setup because that's not the qualities that are rated highest at Man Utd's youth setup.

I think Senna is ok for this season. We need another cm that can play now. I would assume we've explored other options and this is as good as we could do.
With regard to cm, I am excited about Scholes' form. I hope he can stay healthy.

Senna will only last 2 years tops for us, that's my problem. Surely Sulley Muntari could have been purchased with around the same funds (8 million pounds), and he's had rave reviews and is in his early 20's. This is either a stopgap solution, or a way for Gibson to force his way into the side in a few years.

mate sulley muntari is a left footed attacking mid rather than a defensive one and we alreadt have one of those in david jones.and chelsea bought makelele for 14 mill pounds when he was arround the same age as senna and he has lasted more than two years.

I think he can be effective for 3 or 4 more years. Brazilans seem to play well into their thirties. (plus he just turned 30 last week).
