Givet going to sign a 4 yr contract at OM. I'm stunned at this move. If he left I thought for sure he'd go abroad. The defense is now fully gutted. Total complete rebuilding process. Toure will be next probably. This team will be brutal to follow next year. They have no shot of qualifying for Europe. This isnt your father's Monaco team. This is a mid table mediocre side. Remember when they have Evra, Squilacci, Givet, Rodriguez in defense just 3 years ago ? Now they all gone and 2 of them are at OM ! I'm angry that Givet would go to a league rival. I guess he knew this team was going nowhere. I dont think we will get Giuly back either I fear OM will get him too but I still have hope.

now that's gotta hurt! there's not much to inspire loyalty to ASM these days (attendance in 4 figures, incompetent, arrogant management, a climate made for farniente...) but if there's one guy you'd think would love that shirt it's GG.
but i see a scenario for saving ASM... it starts with tintin walking in front of albert's car...

Not only do you have a bad team but you have a manager who plays a boring, unattractive style of ball so I can only imagine how bad the home attendence is gonna be next year.

Monaco: Ricardo Costa in the sight? (27/06/2007)
With the recent departure of one of its defensive pillars in the person of Gaël Givet, Ricardo would think of the one of its compatriots to replace it. According to information of the Portuguese press relayed by the site Foot Mercato, the name of Ricardo Costa (26 years, 8 matches in SuperLiga this season) would return with insistence on the Rock. Very little used by his trainer Jesualdo Ferreira this season, the international Lusitanian would wish to find time of play in order to reinstate the Portuguese selection and would see of a good eye the interest Monegasque. After being depressed quite a bit by Givet's departure, I thought I'd bring some cheer with the post I wrote a couple of minutes ago concerning the French youth selections.
We actually have a representative at every youth level from U-18 to U-21 (alright, we don't have any U-17 or U-16 at the moment, though other than Sochaux and Auxerre, neither does any L1 club), and in many cases, we have more than 1, including the U-19, as well as U-18, where our cool guys Malaury Martin and Distel Zola are captains. :)
Here are my comments on our guys with the U-19 selection who will are in Austria at the Euro U-19 Championship, which commences on July 16.
Malaury Martin (88, Monaco, defensive midfielder): Even though he's from Nice, Martin has been in the youth ranks at l'ASM since he was 13, and has been steadily progressing. He is now the captain of this U-19 side, and seen as an automatic starter. Martin is an intelligent defensive midfielder in the Toulalan-style, as he isn't the bulldog Gattuso-type, but instead a guy who'll make the tackles he has to make, then distribute well. Now that Yaya Touré has gone to Barca, the door is open for Martin to claim a starting role. Of course, however, he will face competition from the guys mentioned below as well as Distel Zola, who happens to be the French U-18 captain.
Steve Pinau (88, Monaco, attacking midfielder): Not to be confused with the Colombian Juan Pablo Pino, Steve Pinau plays a bit like Samir Nasri, though I'll certainly admit he's nowhere as good. Pinau has very good speed as well as a good shot, though he is inconsistent and somewhat lazy. Considering who we have lost this offseason, Pinau could definitely get into the mix, though I would say that is less likely than the other 2 on this list.
Frédéric Nimani (88, Monaco, left winger/attacker): If one is looking for an attacker with tremendous speed and tremendous size, Nimani is your man. In terms of physique, he's been compared to Henry (who also developed at Monaco), and while it'd be insane to think Nimani could be another Henry, in terms of size/speed, he's there, while having a better aerial game than Henry. What Henry does so well that at this point, Nimani isn't very good at is involving other teammates. Too often Nimani appears as a solo artist on the left wing, beating defenders with his speed or dribbling by them, though when he has to make that pass to an open teammate, he struggles. Also, Nimani occasionally has difficulty making turns as even though they are the same height, Nimani is, and plays, a lot heavier than Henry. In any case, Nimani certainly is a player worth watching, and will likely command a starting role in the years ahead at l'ASM.

ADZE: Almost Green Gigliotti (02/07/2007)
The Monegasque David Gigliotti (22 years, 50 matches in L1) should reinforce the attack of the ADZE soon. Its signature at the Greens is probably only one question of days. Lent to Troyes last season, Gigliotti registered 9 goals. According to the Team, Saint-Etienne agreed with the player on a three year old contract. It does not remain any more but with the two clubs to negotiate the amount of the transfer, ranging between 1,5 and 2 million euros. (By Julien Gorenflot)

Gigliotti is a guy who is able to score 8-10 goals in L1 as he did this season, though I'm not that sorry to see him go, as I think Ménez, Piquionne, Vargas and even Koller would be better options this season. Then there is Pino and there is Pinau, both of whom should be L1-quality guys when they develop.
This may not look much, though one day, I expect this Monaco lineup to be one of the best ones in L1. Years are in parentheses.
Ménez (87)
Nimani (88) Pinau (88) Pino (87)
Martin (88) Zola (89)
Mangani (87) Monsoreau (81) Schwechlen (89) Gakpé (87)
Alright, I took some liberties, as Gakpé isn't really a right back (he is a right winger), but all of these guys have represented their countries' youth teams.

I wanted both Gigliotti and Grax on the team. I hate Piquionne. You think they can get Jon Dahl Tomasson ?

Hmmm, I can understand one, but why both? I mean, Grax and Gigliotti are essentially the same guy, a penalty-box preadtor à la Pippo Inzaghi, though obviously not as good as Pippo. I think out of the 2, I'd rather have Grax, he has scored and done well already in important matches (like the Coupe de France).
I hope we do sign Tomasson. Mainly because he's not only a penalty box guy.

I'm not happy with Piquionne and Vargas. I guess theres no room for both Gigliotti and Grax. Menez and Koller are the only forwards I like on the team.

Monaco: Meriem should remain (04/07/2007)
Whereas Camel Meriem (27 years, 25 matches in L1 this season, 2 goals) was therefore announced after a season in half-tone on the Rock, it would seem that the offensive medium of the ASM finally decided to continue the adventure on the Riviera. Information confirmed by its agent in the columns of the Gazette of the Transfers: "It was very requested. The LOSC, the OM and the RC Lens were interested. It nevertheless will remain in Monaco. It had a discussion with Ricardo. It wants to keep it and counts on him." (By Romain Degrange)

Argh! We have signed Berthod, boo! Why, oh why?
Click here to see his interview (http://www.francefootball.fr/FF/breves2007/20070704_151008Dev.html)
Not only that, but Ricardo has guaranteed that he'll be starting! Oh Ricardo, I hope that you can somehow convince your boys Wendel and Fernando to come, because I don't like this!

First Monsoreau and now Berthod. Not so long ago they were a bigger club than Lyon and now they send us their trash ! Berthod was the worst player on their pro roster.
