Hadn't seen a thread on this incident in the semi-final at the Women's Asian Cup 2006.

ADELAIDE: (http://www.the-afc.com/english/competitions/womenAsianCup2006/news/default.asp?action=newsDetails&newsID=6593) Three DPR Korea players have been suspended for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2006 third-fourth place playoff against Japan on Sunday, July 30, 2006, for their role in the fracas which ensued here at the Hindmarsh Stadium after their 1-0 defeat to China in the second semifinal yesterday.

Goalkeeper Hye Yong Han was redcarded by Italian referee Anna De Toni for violent conduct on the pitch and kicking the referee from behind when she (the referee) was being escorted to the referees’ room.

Son Kyong Sun and Song Jung Sun were suspended for throwing bottles and other objects at the referees and also at the spectators.

Further disciplinary measures against the three suspended players will be discussed by the AFC Disciplinary Committee.

Footage of the incident here (http://media.fairfax.com.au/?rid=20743).

I hope the AFC treats this incident with proper severity. Given the level it is at, there's a strong need to set a precedent.

Cant get the video to work. Hmmm.

Ok it works in IE, but maybe not Firefox.

Crazy. Lets hope we see a long ban for these classy ladies.

No problem here with Firefox.

Definitely crazy behaviour, too. I expect FIFA and/or AFC to act appropriately.

Site's probably overloaded. It won't work for me in IE.

This is an awful behavior.

I would like ti see AFC/FIFA hand down the GK a life time ban that is enforced at all levels (from club at the local level all the way to any international games).

I just hope that no one will started justifying this by saying that some racist statements (or alike) were made.

I know it's been said before...but wow. Isn't this the 2nd case of really, really poor behavior from the North Koreans in the past couple of years? (I'm thinking the men's team had issues during a qualifier)

Lifetime ban for the GK seems appropriate. Not sure if it can be enforced for intranational games, but certainly any games under the auspices of FIFA should find that player unwelcome.

Oh, and here's the former issue on PRK: PRK told to play behind closed doors due to crowd trouble. (http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/north_korea_told_to_play_behind_closed_doors_news_63518.html)

Lifetime ban for the keeper seems appropriate. There was one instance of assault with the bump, and then TWO incidents of attempting to injure with the kick and with the water bottle throw.

FIFA needs to make a stand and show this type of behavior simply will not be tolerated. The punishment may be draconian, but maybe the next person won't try to injure the referee.

Well, I suspect that the league has to affiliate with the national DPRK federation which in turn is FIFA-affiliated. So a FIFA ban would trickle down.

The same is not true for suspensions in FIFA tournament events. Those just effect future participation in those specific events.

That's just absolutely disgraceful behavior. I'm all for a lifetime ban.

And a lifetime ban is what the North Koreans demand - for the referees!!

Didn't DPR Korea have a similar type incident in one of the men's WC qualifiers? I seem to remember a ref disallowing a goal and then being attacked maybe a couple of years ago?

Could be interesting when the women's national teams play in the "Peace" Cup in South Korea at the end of October.

Participating teams are: Group A: Brazil, Italy, Nigeria and South Korea; and Group B: USA, Australia, North Korea and Denmark.
