View Full Version : How much money do you think we have for transfers?

Forgive me if my calculations are incorrect, but haven't we basically just landed Carrick for 'free' and upped our actual coffers by £10m today?
By free I mean Carrick is basically a direct exchange for Obi, no? How much did we get from those clowns for him? Was it not £16m to be paid in two installments? or was it 12m, I forget...
If the rumour that we bought Carrick for £14.xM is true then we haven't spent anything yet this window, right?
I'm not sure I believe the Glazers and their £25m kitty talk and I'm quite sure they'll take a decent chunk off the Ruud deal, say £4m, but, forgive my conjecture, we must surely have at least £20m to spend...minus the £4m off the Ruud deal and they must surely have put up at least £15m themselves..
We've made 1 purchase, Carrick's wages won't be more than £50k here, imo, we have a structure you have to work your way up as a newbie. We've also gotten a few wage bills off our books as well as the possibile sales of Miller, Eagles, and hopefully one or two 1st squad members.
Amidst all this doom and gloom and some of the dire anti-Glazer articles written over the last 2weeks, I really don't think we're in that bad a position for the Summer.
Of course, there's every possibility we only sign Carrick and horde all the rest of the money towards the debt... there's also the possibility we either buy 1 or 2 lesser known players who sum total £20m or around that or one more big buy...
Some of you guys who keep up with our outlay could fill in the blanks. I'm sure I've missed some of our incoming monies for this period... We haven't actually spent a penny in the market this Summer as of yet... this is the Chelsea money financing the Carrick transfer...right? We will pay in installments as we never pay a sum total upfront...so, I am right, aren't I?

We got 12 millin from the Obi deal, 4 million went to Lyn. But I've been doun the maths myself and have come to the conclusion that we are heavily on the plus side this window.
we have sold for 22 million and signed for 17 tops. we are still 5 million up. And I'm sure we had money from the start. So even if The Glazers steal a significant chunk of the Ruud money we are still on 0.
That means that there is definitly money to use on someone else and i think we'll se another signing. Even if Fergie says otherwise..

My theory on the transfer budget is that it is pretty flexible, as long as Fergie can justify it. I would guess that at the beginning of the summer, if not sooner, Fergie, Gill and whomever went through a list of players whom they would like to buy and assigned rough transfer fees. All this is probably reviewed with the Glazers. Adjustments are made as players are sold, which removes them from the list and also affects the fees for other players. Fergie is probably now working off his sheet and has an idea of what he can do and for how much.
What is that number? Obviously, I have no idea. My guess is that Fergie asked to be able to make two significant (£10MM+) purchases, plus another purchase or two at a lower level to fill in holes.
This is a long way of saying that I think we could make another big purchase and maybe one or two smaller ones. Of course, this goes out the window if a Rooney-type opportunity presents itself.

So effectively we've paid £3m for Carrick. So today we are at least £7m up... I wonder how much the greedy leprechaun's will take from the rest of that...

Just wanna make sure that we know that 12 million went purely to us, while the total payment made out was 16 million of which 4 million went to Lyn.
We should have money stored up from last year, when we only acquired Park and VDS.

I'm not good with financial mumbo jumbo, but this is very interesting, if we're actually up from the Carrick transfer, we should have enough for a Muntari-type player who can fill in CM and provide forward options.
Wonder how much Glazer will take form it though.

I'll wait until the end of the window to judge that. Up until now I don't heve any problems with the Glazers spending, they seem to have backed us up when we needed it.

.. and Vidic and Evra they were effectively this year but last season... so you have to include them somewhere.. 13 million is still a significant sum

If we take a conservative estimate of our summer transfer kitty being 20mil. initially. Add to that 12 from obi and minimum 10m for Ruud so thats a total of 42mil pounds.
If we paid 15mil for CArrick to spurs that still leaves us with 27million. If the Glazer's don't get greedy we should still be able to bring Mascherano and have approx 10-12mil left for either a forward or a winger like Ribery.
The question is will we be ambitious enough in transfer market to try and get a few more players? if we do blow that remaining 27mil on a few other players then its game ON!!!

There's no way all the money goes towards transfers, the question is, how big the chunk they take out is.
We're an enigma...

We'll just have to wait and se... I just hope that we don't buy someone that's not a cert starter. I am really exited about what the young kids can do. I'd hate to seethem pushed out because we bought someone that's not necesarily better in the long run.

it definitely went to charity, he mentioned that in his post match comments I believe. We didn't profit from it as far as I know..

I believe the 25m number. I have no reason to doubt it. Fergie spent over 20 million last year.
