We're seeded in group 1 of the Northern region, which means we can expect one of the following five sides as our opponent in the final tie to get into the Uefa Cup 1st round:

FK Ventspils (LAT)
FBK Kaunas (LTU)
Drogheda United FC (IRL)
FC Levadia Tallinn (EST)
Llanelli AFC (WAL)

And our opponent is...Ventspils of Latvia.

First leg 10 August away
Second leg 24 August home

We avoided Kaunas. If any of the five unseeded clubs were to worry me, that was the one. Should be fine to get through to the first round.

It's on the Baltic in Latvia.

Looks like the stadium seats about 3,000.

This should be a crushing win.

I like the idea of playing away first, where hopefully we can kill off the tie in what amounts to our last pre-season game...then not have to field as strong as a side at home playing in between 2 prem matches.

In the first round of UEFA Cup qualifying, Ventspils beat GI Gotu of the Faroe Islands 2-1 and 2-0. Nothing to scare us about those results.

Ventspils qualified for this by winning the Latvia Cup last year. Also last year, Ventspils finished 3rd in the Latvian league. Latvia is a country that plays an April to November schedule, so they're right in the middle of their season right now.

So far this year, Ventspils is dominating the Latvian league, in first place after 15 games with 12 wins, 3 ties, and 0 losses (the Latvian league only has 8 teams). Goals for/against is 28-8. Leading scorers this year are: Igors Sļesarčuks 6, Andrejs Butriks 4, and Vits Rimkus 4. Their average attendance this year is about 900 people per match!

Ventspils is a coastal town, and since their stadium only seats 3000 people, they might move the match about 100 miles to the east, and play in the national stadium in Riga, which holds a cool 8 grand!

How many matches do you attend in a season?

And by the way is it impossible to get a job at Newcastle United? I'll be majoring in sports management(business side of sports) and my program is a top 5 in this country. I doubt John Gorman holds much weight at Newcastle but he might somewhere else where he coudl help me. Just thinking out loud, trying to dream you know?

Normally all home games, missing 1 this season cos of holiday. Half of away games and some european ones.

It's not impossible at all. You should just contact the club and they can probably tell you all you want.

Awesome to both parts. You think I should contact them now or a few years into college? Probably wouldnt' be a bad idea to do it now.

Can't think of a better place to work.

You called it. Channel 5 (I think?) wanted to cover the game live but would only do so if the game were moved to the Skonto stadium in Riga, so it's been moved. Supposedly the pitch in Ventspils is shit, and this one is not quite as bad, or something.
