Did not see this info posted elsewhere - I do not think that this info hurts our MLS chances, but it is an event which was sometimes bantered about when justifying the usage of a potential soccer-specific stadium.

No surprise here, we all knew it was coming. We're still not seen as "international" enough of a city yet (whatever that even means), despite the city's efforts.
The MLS SSS thing continues on unrelated.

Well, it's not entirely true that they're out of the running to host the 2016 games. It just won't be the nominated city from the US.
Philadelphia still could seceed and form it's own city state and host, or link up with some other country, like Brazil.

I loved the rationale that the international community wasn't too keen on us. I mean, Atlanta way back in 1990 or whenever it was awarded the games...HELLO!

Oh well, I was hoping for it.
There is a little impact here, actually. Rowan has said from the beginning that the SSS would be part of the Philly 2016 bid. Also, all the money used to prepare Philly for the Olympics could have helped/hurted Philly's chances to build something on the PA side.
Minor impacts, but we'll never know now. :(

I guess the bribe John Street offered wasn't as much as the USOC was asking.

A lifetime supply of Jim's steaks wasn't enough? He doesn't bribe with money, he get's bribed with money...

i'd think san francisco is high up on the list of places the hoi poloi of the IOC want to go .....
the big issue is a venue for track and field in philly...
ya gotta build a state of the art venue for 70-100 k and the big question becomes what do you do with it once the 2 weeks are over...

game set match. fancy hotels also work and la and chicago have those in abundance.
much as it pains me to say it philadelphia should have sold its proximity to new york in that respect.

chicago is a traffic nightmare....
san francisco you can spread out stuff from san jose, even up to sacramento..
there's berkley and stanford....i'm thinking a new olympic stadium for track which gets converted to college football use is the angle...
same story in chicago, they need a track venue, but I don't see alternate uses..
philly as a world cup host city venue whenever ua gets the cup again is the path I'd prefer...
the mls venue can be a practice location for a team...
