The trailer is truly incredible. Whether the rest of the movie is as good remains to be seen. There's been some major negative buzz about it for the past several months as some big re-edits and reshootings were mandated by the studio execs, but maybe Scorcese has turned it around.

By the way, DiCaprio's Irish accent is remarkably bad. Almost so bad that you have to think he worked on making it worse.

I'm sworn to secrecy on what I've seen of this movie, but I can say that it's absolutely awesome. I mean truly, truly excellent, in my opinion anyway.

I have great faith in Scorsese in his latter years. I'm of the small minority who think "Age of Innocence," "Casino" and "Kundun" are the three best things he's ever done.

Whil I will agree with Casino, the other two I'm not to sure of.

Waking the Dead was one of the worst movies I've ever seen as well.

I'm expecting Gangs of NY to be good, but I will hold final judgement until I see it.

Age of Innocence is a great flick. I was just thinking of it a few days ago, in relation to another thread, where someone said they found Michelle Pfeiffer strangely unattractive. I remembered the moment in the film when she first appears, in the box at the opera, trying to hide her desperation from Daniel Day Lewis and I spent the rest of the film captivated. Scorcese gets wonderful performances from actors. I'm curious to see what he can do with DiCaprio, who has shown flashes of talent (What's Eating Gilbert Grape).

Total aside: That year, 1992, was an exceptional year for movies. "Age" wasn't even nominated for Best Picture. There was something for everyone: Schindler's List, The Remains of the Day (one of my all-time favorites), Philadelphia, Jurassic Park, The Fugitive, In The Name Of The Father, In The Line Of Fire, and Short Cuts all came out that year.

Wasn't this movie supposed to come out last summer/fall/winter. I was under the impression that it got pushed back because of 9/11.

The scene in Kundun, where he looks back (to the future) to see the guides who led him out of Tibet, massacred, was really great.

Saw "Road to Perdition" last night. Nice little genre piece. Mendes should stick to genre formulas for the rest of his career because 1) he's good at them and 2) he sucks at character development (see "American Beauty")

Everyone I know who saw "Dead Man" (5 people???) liked it. Those who weren't naturally attracted to it stayed away, I think.

To be honest, I think the trailer for this movie is really lowering my expectations, which is good. There is only one Scorsese movie that I have seen that I didn't love, and that is "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" -- that may have been the mood I was in more than the film.

Lowering my expectations is good, because I am going to like it, it will just be more of a surprise.
