On a sidenote, Continental, who was hanover's 2nd biggest sponsor, won't renew the contract... they see themselves as a global company and want to focuss on advertising at the ECs and WCs... Well, it's time us Hanoverians get global, too, I guess, Continental has no loyalty to it's origin... quite sad.

Well, it's not about how good you are, but how much attention you point towards your sponsor. Dortmund has pretty much the largest and most loyal fan base in Germany, if not in Europe.

Yes, it´s correct, that they have a huge fansbase,
but as far as i know, the Schalke fanbase is not much smaller.
Furthermore Dortmund played since some years not international
and this would, if i would sponsor a club, a negative criteria,
because CL and UEFA-cup are broadcasted in nearly every country,
while you can´t watch Bundesliga in many countries.

True, but that depends on your sponsor. As far as I know, RAG (former Ruhrkohle AG) is first of all a German company and has no interest in foreign markets. The only sponsors that really operate internationally are Volkswagen and Telekom.

Obviously RAG feels that it's worth to pay Dortmund that kind of money. They probably could be on somebody elses jersey for much less.

they also look at how many shirts they sell and how much exposure they get... For Bremen to be ahead of HIV is surprising... HSV is a big marketing club.

Also Wolfsburg shouldn't be on that list.... they can pump all the money they want in their team...

You must be kidding me. TUI is one of the major Tourism players worldwide, Fly Emirates and Kyocera aren't even German and a lot of those ensurances and energy companys have some share of foreign markets (even though under different names, I have to admit)

I think RAG realizes that not only is BVB still a big "name" with fans around Europe, we will also be back in UEFA competition very soon........

But Bremen has two things HSV hasn't had for a long time. A recent title and more CL exposure.

On top of that, Bremen are a lot of people's favorites for the title this season too..........

They can't "pump all the meany they want in their team" these days. Volkswagen itself is in a bit of financial trouble.

They're trying to find ways not to have to lay off workers these days. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to tell people they lost their jobs while they pump money into that team.

I think even RAG has designs on business outside of Germany. They are preparing to list on the stock market in the coming months........
