even though it's probably unrealistic for many different reasons...i'd like to have Friedel in my deck if i was the coach....hopefully, Klinsmann can drag him out of retirement specially if we don't get another GK to step up behind Howard.

yeah, the picture really does not show this typical klinsi optimisms and enthusiasm:). They should have choosen better picture. Well maybe it is face of Klinsi after they asked him if they wanted to be USMNT coach. :).
many says that Klinsi will be USMNT coach only because he:
1. live in the USA, CAlifornia
2. has an american family
3. live not far away from USMNT training centre
4. is free because he told No to coach german team
I think following:
I think he is really tired after world cup.
He need some time for himself and his family
He will not make any decision soon, at least not in next 6 months
He likes German team, he put so much work in this young team and it is "his" team, he always called it "FAMILY", We are one team. He was very sad when he said NO to Germany. I think it was hard decision for him. However, I understand. German team have qualifying games for European Cups that starts already in August 16. Then European Cup. I think it would be for Klinsi very difficult to commute between California and Germany.
Of course you never know - maybe he will coach German team next world cup.
He still has not said YES to USMNT:)

No, no it goes with Jurgen "pondering" his next move. Well, actually, he does look like he's trying to do his best impersonation of a 2,000 year old Egyptian mummy... :)

Hello Mighty Mouse,
I know how USA will get Klinsi:). Here is my strategy. You need to organize that many US fans print jerseys (saying Klinsi we want you or something like that) and cause some "soccer revolution" in your whole country. Thel more fans support Klinsi, the more is your chance. You need to "import" this wonderful soccer street culture from Germany we had during world cup. Klinsi will enjoy it, will feel happy and if he see that so many Americans love him and want him, he will say YES. But how many Americans really know about Klinsi? You need to make some fan fests in the USA, make soccer parties and if Klinsi see that, he will join:). He loves such soccer street culture and enthusiasm. He NEED FANS!!!. You was in Germany, so you know about German fans and our support for German team and Klinsi:). So import this culture and you have Klinsi!. Good strategy.

P.S
I feel that I´m going to be unemployed at Bigsoccer. Maybe I should take a break like Klinsi.:). There is no world cup, no friendly games, I have no special news for you Americans now:). Hm. I ´m burnt out:)

you can relax in the BSSC if you'd like ;)

I think Jurgen would enjoy the challenge of raising the Americans to the next level. He knows alot of the players personally and he knows what to expect. So it's should be a good fit.

Friedel is funny. He first bashes those who dare to think we need to move on from Bruce, and then as soon as Bruce is let go, he is the first in line to promote Klinsmann. I guess the two are not mutually exclusive ideas, but I think that Brad just likes to feel important.

Klinsmann knows what to expect from the USA. Soccer culture is spontaneous like life, you can't fake real enthusiasm, the US has a long way to go still to even come close to matching what happened in Germany. There are, however, signs of life sounding out of USA and people are starting to take notice. I can honestly say this world cup is the first to really capture a wider audience in the US than since we hosted the world cup in 1994. People are genuinely interested in the sport and more people that never watched before watched almost EVERY MATCH. Does this translate into soccer fans for MLS and the US national team? Not directly, but it does plant the seed in people's minds that this game means something, its worth watching, and it has a level of passion not seen in any other sport.
I expect Klinsmann to be our next coach. I really don't see anyone else against Klinsmann, there is some doubt about his experience, but generally everyone wants Klinsmann in the US. Even the non soccer fans that just turned into world cup fans want Klinsmann. It makes lots of sense for everyone involved and he can be relaxed at his job at the start. We have a good core of young players coming up and the next US national team will have MANY new young faces coming in. Klinsmann already has shown he can work with youth and in America there is a desperate need for someone who really cares and knows how to show the way... Klinsmann.
If Klinsmann reads Bigsoccer he knows damn well he is wanted in the USA. :)

Why would you think Brad "likes to feel important"?
The 2 things are not mutually exclusive in any way because the situations have changed from the 2 comments you mention.
At the beginning, the USA had a coach in Arena, and Brad didn't think Bruce was the problem.
Now the USSF decides they want to make a change at the top.
So the decision is set.... whether or not Brad thinks this was the right decision is no longer pertinent.
So now that it's a forgone conclusion that Arena's contract won't be renewed, you have to move on. So now when someone asks you give your opinion on who you think should be next (and he's far from the first in line to endorse Klinnsman).
It is actually perfectly logical.
What would have been nonsensical would to have continued to promote Arena for the job when that's the one thing that has already been decided against.
It would be like asking at the beginning of the World Cup who you thought would win and you said Brazil. Then if someone asked you again the day before the final, you would no longer say Brazil. The situation has changed... the options available to you are not the same. You now go with what is possible rather than what you would have liked to see a month ago.

I hope you like David ("bend it like him") Beckham, bltleo, because it seems that he and Klinsmann are about to be neighbors, according to this report: http://www.tmz.com/2006/07/24/exclusive-the-beckhams-are-coming/
The Beckhams are looking for a house in Bel-Air, a city next to Beverly Hills, so exclusive that $1 million only buys you a bathroom. Beckham has his "David Beckham Academy" (a youth soccer camp) headquartered at Home Depot Center in LA where USMNT is at. If Klinsmann takes the USMNT coaching gig in 2007, it's possible you can see Beckham and Klinsmann sipping coffee at a Starbucks nearby.
In light of the fact that Brazil has just appointed Carlos Dunga as its national team's coach, which some said is an act inspired by the success of Germany's hire of Klinsmann, allow me to make two wild predictions: 1) Klinsmann will coach USMNT from 2007 to 2010; 2) Beckham will then take over from 2011 to 2014.
Southern California is being baked by the relentless sun, so my brain could have been fried. A fair warning.

Nah, I just think we sometimes forget just how much of a fishbowl English league players live in. He's a Yank, he's the most tenured Yank with his club, he's arguably the biggest star on his team, so it stands to reason that the Blackburn correspondent is going to fill his daily quota on a slow news day with a question to Brad on this.
Really, I don't think it's anything more than that.,

Looks like everyone want to go to South California. Thanks for report on Beckham. Of course I like David. David, Landon and Jürgen - all three at one place:).
I think everyone is inspired by Klinsi success. He has made many progressive changes in german soccer and I like "big changes", reforms and this is why I like Klinsi. He "created" dangerous attacking german team that has very good future.
About David? Hm the only thing he need to learn and he need to learn is PENALTY shoots:). But I think if David is a coach of USMNT, he will choise for the USMNT squad only players who looks good (metrosexual types:). But of couse in 2014 he will be older and maybe he can be good coach.
But first Klinsi!
Klinsi, David and Landon - in South California. I was wondering what I´m still doing in Cologne:)
