River will ask to postpone the second match of the Apertura vs. Newell's since they recieved an invitation to play the Copa Teresa Herrera on August 11th and 12th. Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Deportivo La Coruna will also participate in the tournament.
That should be interesting to watch..

Forget that.. River cannot go because of the Apertura.. Nacional (Uruguay) will take our spot..

Thank god. Imagine if we played with some of our better players and some of them came away injured.

I'd be more worried about us going there and playing well and then receiving numerous offers for our better players that we are evidently in no position to refuse!! I'm determined to enjoy this season with this crop of good players because I worry a few of them wont be here in 12 months. With Boca likely to sell Gago and Palacio after the 2007 Libertadores it would be awesome if we could keep this team together for 2 or 3 years because we would dominate. But it isnt going to happen as things stand financially.

Hey Gray,
Any chance Mohammed Al Fayed can pump some money into the club? The Fulham thing doesn't seem to be working, even though they're still playing in the Premiership. If he were to pump some money into River, he just might turn them into the Real Madrid of South America. Then again, we've seen what has happened to them after they went and bought all these high priced players. They haven't won squat.

Screw Real, let's be the Chelsea of South America.

With four #5's (defensive midfielders), who will be our starter? Better yet, who should be our starter?
We have:
Oscar Ahumada - Injured
Marcelo Sosa - Talented Uruguayan with experience in Europe.
Rene Lima - Has had some experience in Primera, and wouldn't be afraid to take the spot. I liked him a lot every time I saw him play.
Nico Domingo - Very young and very talented.. I've only seen him play twice, I think, but I fell in love with how he plays instantly. I see him as the next Mascherano.. And, yesterday in the friendly vs. Independiente (Rivadavia), he was said to be the best, or one of the best, players on the field.
So who should take the spot during the next semester?

I think that experience might win it since Lanus is a tricky opponent.

I'd give the nod to Sosa. Then again, we will be playing in two tournaments, so I think keeping them all fresh will be good. Hopefully Sosa, Lima, and Domingo won't suffer any type of catostrophic injury.

what do you guys think about gallardo playing a deeper position in midfield instead of right behind the strikers? i guess its a way to get ortega and him on the field at the same time, but i think it takes away a lot fo muneco's game. can anyone explain to me the difference between the #5, d-mid postion, and the doble-5?

Oh, I forgot to add Jesus Mendez.. He was on loan to Olimpo and Passarella liked him, so they terminated his loan 6 months ahead of time. So now that's five #5's to choose from..

I haven't seen Sosa or Domingo play but I thought Lima and Mendez did a good job when they did play (Mendez played some games under Astrada one of the greatest 5 in histor) According to Ole El Kaiser is leaning for Mendez at the moment but I think that the job's is Ahumada as soon as he comes back. Does anyone know how long will he be out? And don't forget that Lussenhoff and Tuzzio also played 5 in the past and could be placed there if the circumstances so require it.

5 is pretty much a central defensive midfielder, double 5 is simply playing with 2 central defensive midfield. I hope that helps.
