Apparently in 1950's Yugoslavia it was the music craze of the day. Being a fake Mexican was 'in'. Anybody else know about this?

It's a shame that JLG is banned from posting in the Mexico forum. Cause if there was anyone who could tell you about wanting to be a fake Mexican it would be him. ;)

I always heard that the Mexican Ballad and Ranchera was popular in Slavic and Arabic countries.

The Arabic immigrants coming to Mexico during the 1920s and again during WW2, they embraced Mexico's Folkloric culture. Some moved back to thier native countries and many stayed and made Mexico thier home. Many of them moved to the north. There are a lot of Lebonese and Slavic surnames in Mty...if you see names such as Manzur...(which really is spelled Mansour), you know where they came from.

But what else is new? :D Our cuisine, music, and culture is duplicated, but can never be authenticated... they can only try...

How about the Syrian Jews in Mexico City. My mother had a friend years ago in Brooklyn who's family were Syrian Jews. She was born and raised in Mexico City. Whenever we would visit the food was an interesting combination of Mexican and Middle-Eastern.

There are a lot of jews here in Mexico city, and they all buy their food in Carrefour of Polanco because thatīs where they sell the kosher food.
