This is a total guilty pleasure for me. I have the damn box set. I will be there the day this opens. That said, I will defend the first Rocky to the day I die as a great film.

My point was that I can't believe that Stallone is doing another Rocky movie.

Well, at least he's not doing another Rambo sequel (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462499/).

I saw the preview in the theater yesterday, and was just wondering how bad Stallone had to be doing. And the plot looks ridiculous.

I think very few people hyave a problem with the first Rocky (heck I like the second Rocky even more minus the somewhat hokey ending.).
I think starting with III and going onwards it became a complete and utter caricature of itself.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters December 20th and its official site can be found here (http://rocky.com/).
It seems that just like Rocky II, III and IV, this one will also have been directed by Sylvester Stallone himself (whereas Rocky and Rocky V were directed by John G. Avildsen).
For those with the Comcast HD-DVR and its HD service: they currently have 16:9 HD versions of all five of the previous Rocky movies in On Demand which can be watched for free.
Once you're in On Demand, just go to:
HD On Demand --> Free Movies!--> All Movies
Then scroll down, find which Rocky film you want to watch and choose it. They'll be there until the end of January.
There are also non-HD versions of the previous five movies in On Demand, though unlike the HD versions, they're only presented in the 4:3 non-widescreen format.
In any case, it's been a while since I've seen any of the Rocky films and I just finished watching the first Rocky in HD. I'll have watched the other four in HD before Rocky Balboa hits theaters... and I'll have watched them all for free! :D

I just came back from watching Rocky Balboa. It was pretty good. :)
I'm glad I watched the aforementioned free Rocky Comcast On Demand HD marathon beforehand, as there were lots of little references to the past films (which, to series-writer Sylvester Stallone's credit, has been true in all of the Rocky sequels).

I loved every minute of this movie. I felt that Stallone did a really good job and that the supporting cast was very good as well. It seemed real to me, sort of how Rocky I felt. As a native Philadelphian who grew up around the area of Philadelphia where Rocky lived in Rocky I and where various scenes are shot in Rocky VI, I am bias and it didnt take a lot for me to give it my thumbs up. But I was impressed with how well the accents were and even the minor chraracters seemed to be Philadelphian. I loved the fight scene as well, the only sequence where I felt that it wasn't up to par was the training sequence. Everything else was good though.

I only saw the end (the fight). I am not a big Rocky guy, but it was a nice end and good directing. I wouldn't mind watching the whole thing now.
