The best bread in the Washington DC Metro area:
Uptown Bakers (DuPont Circle & Arlington)-no longer in existence, as far as I know.
Best Buns (Arlington).
Marvelous Market (DuPont Circle).

There's a bakery in Pescadero, which is a crossroads on the coast south of San Francisco, that makes artichoke herb bread. It has quartered artichoke hearts baked into the bread.
Just finished a loaf of chocolate cherry bread, yum.

I stopped at the Fishook (which was suggested by Mike) in Georgetown on the way to the DC United open practice.
Good stuff.
But I think both Best Buns & Marvelous Market are better.

Village Mill Bread Company in Del Mar, CA, makes an amazing sundried tomato, garlic, and parmesan loaf. Great cinnamon streussel bread, too.

FIREHook, not Fishhook.
How was the practice? Many people there?

That might explain why the bread was not as good! ;)
The practice was starters versus reserves. It was a decent scrimmage.
There were a few hundred people there. Quite a few Screaming Eagles, Barra Bravas & La Nortes.

I love flatbread that gets served in Persian restaurants...that's some of my favorite bread.
