What is the general consensus regarding Alfio Basile as the new DT for Argentina?
Are we to expect any major differences in philosophies?
Your insight is appreciated.

Basile is someone whose teams play attacking football, but, and I think this is a significant difference between him and Pekerman's team, Basile teams generally play the game at a quick tempo.
Basile is also someone who is not frigthened to pick skilfull players or "big name" players, I can see him accommodating Messi/Aguero/Tevez in the same team. If a Basile side does lose, it will do so trying to win a game, rather that handing over the initiative to the opposition and then trying to cling on.
You are never going to get total agreement on who should manage any national team, but all in all I'm quite hopeful about this appointment.

Don't like it, he had his chance already it is time that we try someone new and fresh. He was pick because he can be controlled by Julio "the Godfather" Grondona. That said, once he is the coach I'll hope the team does great and win everything.

now he has experience so its a different chance back when he had his chance without experience he got a world record not losing in 33 games and winning copa america 91,93 and conf cup in 92! not to mention 4 tournaments with boca in 1 yr!!
anyways Grondona is calling for Diego to be his assistant since they're good friends

Winning the next Copa America will be a good start for Basile and Maradona. :D

Remember last time Argentina won something was when Basile was the headcoach, 2 Copa Americas undefeated. Plus a 32 wining streak.
World Cup wasn't his fault as we all know what was the downer in that USA 94.
Basile yes,Maradona no.

Probably he will stick close to what he did at Boca, which is the same he's done most of his career.
Look for a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-2-2-2 formation, with a line of four in defense, two defensive midfielders (think Gago and Battaglia at Boca, an enganche (think Insua in Boca, but it could be Riquelme, Aimar, D'alessandro, or maybe even Messi at the NT), paired with another creative mid who can play wide, and then in attack an inside forward and an outside threat (think Palermo and Palacio at Boca).

Maybe the experience he had with Diego in WC94 will encourage Basile not to have the team depend too much on one player, regardless of how good that player is.

So is he gonna be the new DT or not? According to this article La Volpe is flying to Argentina because he might become the new Boca coach.

It´s good to know that at least he won´t have us depending on a single player, I think that´s been a weakness of Argentina´s under Pekerman.

At least under Basile Messi is likely to get on the pitch.

u know what i actually hated about pekerman? only Europe based players are the ones that he picks! he doesnt even consider those who play in other leagues or our league! but basile does! so thats something good u might see more of Clemente, Cavenaghi on the team :p

Palacio's "performance" against the Ivory Coast is a good arguament for not picking any players from the Argentine league. He should have taken Aguero.
Peker is history, time to move on, lets look forward to the Basile era part 2.
