ABC's production of the 2002 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game will feature cutting-edge audio.
http://www.mlsnet.com/special/as02/as0730audio.html
"A new level of television audio will be delivered to the fans at home by ABC's first-ever stereo broadcast of the MLS All-Star Game with a mixture of bench, sideline and goalmouth microphones, wireless microphones and underground Turf Mics. With coverage from literally every location on and around the playing surface, the audio experience will be the equivalent of being on the field at the game."
Sounds good to me. But then, I try not to complain too much.

All this despite ABC's conspiracy to keep soccer down

I think this is good news, but there will be the inevitable complaining by the soccer purists, who don't even think there should be an All Star game, that it will take away from the game viewing.

I'll take a whoopee cushion going off into one of those mics when Veronica starts an interview.

Forget the audio, give me a couple of cameras showing the offisde trap and then we can talk.
btw, with as much as MLS players swear, I'm not sure the increased audio is such a good idea. :)

Unfortunately, with all the mics...they still can't drown out Jack and Ty!
Seriously, it sounds like they are going through a lot of trouble to put together quite a show. And it sounds like a lot of it was efforted from the Mouse side of things. I don't know if MLS could front as much money as it is going to take for this production set-up, so I have to assume Disney is footing a large part of the bill. Good for them.
Unfortunately, I am going to be at work, but I am definitely going to set up a tape!!

If it works, you'll see it on Monday Night Football.

I was thinking that too...but why not just test it out in their preseason games??
I would think turf mics might be a bit much for NFL games, with the cracking, and the grunting, and the hitting...huh-huh, flay-ven. :)

Gosh, maybe I should just eat my ticket so I can experience this cacophony of sound.
The only thing that would improve this is they employed the old Late Night with David Letterman "Monkey Cam" and let the monkey roam the field during the match. Now THAT would be a telecast.

I am pretty sure they had this stuff last year, the only difference is that it is going to be in stereo.
