Maybe we shouldn't get stuck on the Mourinho part of the article. The idea of getting a coach that has a serious pedigree internationally is worth focusing on. Not sure who that would be aside from Klinsman, but it is a good direction to take.
Also, the sky is blue.

Mourinho? I've always told the kids to stay away from drugs.
Let's see, Jose is making close to $8M/year, not including endorsements, within the money center of soocer - Europe. He's got a chance to win the Champions League, arguably the toughest trophy around along with the EPL (I'm talking about the double, a pretty difficult task). He's presently coaching arguably the best side in the world that includes Ballack, Shevchenko, Terry, Lampard, Cech, Makalelee, Robben, J Cole, Crespo, Drogba, Essien, Gallas, and he might add A Cole and/or Roberto Carlos.
So, he'll turn those chips in for less money, no chance to win any meaningful trophy (unless you consider the Gold Cup meaningful), and the chance to coach Landon Donovan? That, my firends, is insightful journalism!!!
Why did I just waste my time writing this?

anotherproblem with Mourinho I think, is that USSF still needs to grow spectator interest in the sport in this country. Mourinho coaches the US, with US players, and it will be Greece '04 all over again (except there's no way the US wins the WC, and the US already wins the other competitions it enters)...going for a bunch of 1-0 and 0-0 then on to pk's games.
This will neither encourage casual fans (who brign with them the dollars needed to grow the pool of talented players) nor encourage the type of skillful attractive attacking soccer we need to play to develop talented players.

We need a better developmental system for soccer writers ... The USSF should revamp the system to develop soccer writers.
Ha! I agree.
But the development system should focus only on inner-city scribes, since everyone knows they are "hungrier" and make the best writers.

The problem is that our best writers don't go into soccer writing. Until the likes of Stephen King and Judith Krantz can make as much money covering soccer as they can writing pot-boiler fiction, we'll never get anywhere.
Can you imagine how popular the sport would be if Mickey Spillane had written about soccer?

Well, I got my two laughs for the day. I think this article is even funnier than the picture of the guy yanking down Gibbs' shorts over in Yanks Abroad.
We're not laughing with him, we're laughing at him. (The cat and I, for those who are carefully counting).

Well...
1- Mourinho is IMHO the best coach actually in the world. I saw him training FCPORTO and his methods, his tactical disposition, his mastering of the psicological aspect of the game, the programation of an entire year even before the summer vacations of the PREVIOUS YEAR began are without reproach. He would be an excellent USMNT coach, but, unfortunately, he is just too expensive.
Queiroz, Wenger, Rehaggel, some french( michel) and dutch coaches (advocaat, adriansee)could be also good choices for the USMNT.
A technical director and coordinator for the development and scouting of soccer in this country must be other person, with a good understanding of american mentality, our structures to meke bridges between all the leagues, clubs, colleges and universities that exist in this country. In general i agree with Trecker article,

It's been so long that I've read one of his article, I forget how to spell his name. Is it Trekker or Trecker?
Anyway, don't read his articles. Don't link to his articles. Don't email anyone about his articles, unless it's to his editors, and even then, all that should be said is "This guy is incompetent. Please hire another writer to cover soccer, because I'll never read another of his articles."
The end.
