Personally I'd like to see a combination of Bianchi and Maradona, but I doubt if either of them could work with Grondona.

It would be wonderful to see Maradona involved. But it doesn't seem likely the AFA are going to offer him a role he will accept.

this is nothing knew but i posted this because they have Batistuta as one of the canidates thats interested in the job. personally, he's my favorite player of all time but i don't think he maybe ready to take over just yet.

Jose Pekerman has officially quit as Argentina coach, despite the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) president begging him to stay.

Pekerman quit after his team was eliminated on penalties in a World Cup quarter-final with hosts Germany after a 1-1 draw and said when the team returned home to Buenos Aires that he would stand by that decision.

AFA chairman Julio Grondona still tried to dissuade him but has now admitted defeat.

"I've talked to Pekerman and he told me that he will not continue with the national team," Grondona said. "It was something that was always possible and I am relaxed about it."

Argentina's 1986 World Cup winning coach Carlos Bilardo, playing legends Diego Maradona and Gabriel Batistuta and former Mexico coach Ricardo Lavolpe have all expressed an interest.

Grondona said: "We'll see what will happens. I haven't thought about it because it's very recent."

He told Clarin newspaper: "We'll wait until next week. We don't have any name yet."

Oh lord no, not Coco. Old and passed it for another swing at the NT... Bianchi/Gallego/Burruchaga are the best bet, and besides Gallego, neither of them want it or are going to get it.

El presidente de Boca confirmó la propuesta de la AFA a Basile y destacó que el entrenador ya le aseguró que respetará la postura que adopte el club xeneize. Luego, anunció que "no se tomará ninguna decisión hasta la semana que viene".

1. Ramon Diaz
2. Passarella

I am a proud hincha de Boca, socio y and abono (I went to the terraces 15 years, now Im tired of jumping and singing for 90 minutes -sorry- and have had a seatingplace for the last 2 years).

Why these 2 choices??

1.Ramon Diaz is the only Manager who would make the NT team play with Tevez, Messi and Aguero all together. It would be the most offensive team in our history. Also he gives sweet fu@k all about the media (kind of like Lavolpe) and has nothing to prove to anybody. He would be in it for the Glory. Best choice yet not realistic for Grondona will want to put a Manager he could influence and Ramon Diaz would send him to fry chips as soon as Grondona makes an atempt to do so. Grondona knows this and that is why he isnt even considered.

2.Passarella...I hated him with his autoritarism, short hair policy and harshness from the past. The loss of one of his offsprings had a huge impact on his behaviour and you can see that he realised that his histrionics were pointless and affected the group of players he managed. His approach now a days to the job is great, he is enjoying everything and although things are not going well with River you can see that he is very capable and also 100 percent offensive minded.

Lets see what the Old Bugger (Grondona) comes up with. Thank goodness he is not that stupid as to consider Maradona an option. Maradona couldnt even run a bath. Great(est) player, leaves a lot to be desired as a human being.

no Basile and no Passarella. The only canditate that actually deserve a shot more than anyone is Bianchi. I hate Grondona. I despise his seemingly eternal reign on Argentine football.

While Bianchi would be my preferred candidate I know he'd never take the job so long as Grondona remains in charge of AFA (which he will until the day he dies). Ole is saying Basile is AFA's first choice, Macri and Boca aren't happy about that but in the end you know they'll bow to AFA and Grondona's wishes.

I don't mind Basile as a choice. He plays open, attacking football. I liked his 1991 and 1993 Copa America champions (last time we won that tournament by the way! Time for that to change) and his 1994 World Cup team was one of my favorite Argentina national teams and played wonderful football until Maradona's suspension caused that team to self destruct (well that and Islas' weak goalkeeping).

So overall I'd be happy with Basile as Argentina's coach. We could do a lot worse and he is a proven winner at both club and national team level. I'd just hate to listen to his press conferences with his hoarse, cigarette induced voice!

The 1994 world cup team is one of my favourite teams as well. I'm fairly certain that Basile would play the likes of Tevez/Messi and Aguero together. :D

Mind you he does look like he's been sleeping on a park bench for a few weeks, but who cares, he was the last Argentina manager to win anything with the national team.
