Stumbled on this re-run last night. Must have been from Sunday. I was shocked at how objective they were without being anti-soccer. One guy saying, "Americans can't understand how someone could do this in that big a game." The black guy says, "ZZ's mom said there are things more important than football." In response, "Well, what about that?" The tone being one of it is worth a discussion. One compared it to a hockey player that gets a penalty just for payback when he knows it will hurt his team.
These guys NEVER talk about soccer so I think we have arrived much more than people think. Bottom line, people watched this game, even non-soccer fans I know.

Yep, I know a lot of americans who watched soccer for the first time in this world cup, and many people watched the final...

That supposed quote from ZZ's mom was taken from the Daily Mail and seems to have spread unchallenged throughout the world.
The Daily Mail is about as credible and the Weekly World News or National Enquirer.
Imagine a quote from Terrell Owens' mom in the Enquirer making the rounds in foreign papers as representative of American Super Bowl coverage.
Bizarre. ESPN should be ashamed. But they don't really do shame, do they?

And also, it's sad they're the only country that doesn't use the metric system and Celcius.
