Just seen Misimovic's goal, quality, looked quite fluky, but really was quality.

Very important for the 5 years ranking, that they made it.

Congrats to FCN. :)

Yes indeed, now Romania is with only Steaua left, but look at Russia how fast are moving and they still have all their teams..

Yes indeed, now Romania is with only Steaua left, but look at Russia how fast are moving and they still have all their teams..

Yes, Russia, Greece (respect) and Germany are the only countries
with all starters still in the competition.
Russian league and BL currently clear favorites on rank 5 and 6,
which means 3 starters in CL.

(rank, country, 5 years ranking, (this season ranking),
[teams left in competition out of the teams that started])
5. Romania 40.399 (2.4) [1/5]
6. Germany 39.007 (3.785) [7/7]
7. Russia 37.000 (4.5) [4/4]
8. Netherlands 35.879 (2.666) [2/6]
9. Portugal 35.213 (3.214) [4/7]

If VfB and Werder now wake up in the CL group stage
it could be a very good season for the BL.

Congrats to Nürnberg on making the surprise and going through to the group stage! They were a little bit lucky, since Rapid had a few good scoring opportunities ... but they showed great fighting spirit after the early 0:1 lag and scored 2 beautiful goals by Kluge and Misimovic! The defence looked weak once again in many situations and the attack was quasi non-existent for most part of the game (playmaker Mintal, who wasn't fit, had to play as the only striker) ... but they had a great goalie & my former Borussia darling Peer Kluge who was simply superb!!! And nearby they managed to convert their few chances this time (in contrast to the Bundesliga)...

Here's 2 match reports with statistics and all 4 goals:

Not bad, at least we didn't lose.
Although, I must admit, I was hoping perhaps Alexander Stephan would be in goal, what with Blazek having some abdominal issues, or whatever was going on. Alexander has shown great strength in goal with 1.FCN II, and I can't wait until he has the chance to show his stuff for the first team.:)

Wow, a FCN girl from Arizona! ;) Welcome to this thread. *wink*

Btw: I'll see Alexander Stephan live in the "Benefiz-Derby" against Fürth next Wednesday (the game is also live on DSF), since Blazek will be with the national team and Klewer is injured. To be honest, I don't know much about him at the moment...

Shall I take a few pics of him for you? Why are you such a fan of him?

Here's a pre-match report (in German) about the derby against Bayern at Allianz-Arena:

http://www.fcn.de/index.php?id=15541

Nürnberg's last win in Munich was in 1992. Last season they managed to get 4 points from both derby games (0:0, 3:0).

Wie lange bist Du Clubberer? :)

Respect to the Club!
Now I hope you get a little more luck in the draw for the groupstage than we had last year :)
But with so many "favorites" out allready, this could be quite possible!

Anyone here going to be at the Allianz Arena on Sunday? I'm still searching for a possible ticket. Tough though. I may be forced to catch it on Premiere.

Mein Herz schlägt für Mönchengladbach & Fürth.

Thank you for writing in German. I'll try to get some pics of Stephan for you on Wednesday.

Btw: Are you maybe related to our member @ Blinder Passagier (Lara is a big Lehmann & Arsenal fan and from Toronto as well)?

PS: Would you like to take the mod. for this thread? I asked my brother, but he told me that he hasn't any time for forums since he got married...

Deserved 0:3 defeat in the Bavarian derby against Bayern at Allianz-Arena!

07.10.2007:
Ohne Chance in München

I hate to have to agree with you, but unfortunately it is right when you say "deserved defeat". It was horrible to see that, it was almost as if they didn't even try, and FCB had most control of the ball. And again, I really wish Meyer would give Stephan a chance to show his skills for the first team, and not just "warm the bench". in my opinion, he has already proven he is up for the job by his performances with FCN II. Nothing against Blazek, I just think he needs a break...besides, wasn't he injured or having some abdominal issues at the last match?

Very sad to see..especially when they literally handed FCB's asses to them in February, even with
"almighty Kahn" in goal. We can do better than this.

Also Du bist kein Clubberer...schade. Bist Du eigentlich in Fürth geboren?

We all know FCN did try. I think what we saw yesterday was the huge difference in class between the two teams. FCB spent their 70 million Euros very well and it is showing. Bayern has a real chance to go unbeaten this season.

Add to that the injury riddled FCN roster and you get what you saw yesterday.

What’s even scarier about this is that Bayern didn’t even play their top eleven yesterday…….

Spoken like a devoted fan of one certain player. Sorry, but if I were a coach, I’m not going to play a kid in the Bundesliga based on performances in the Bayernliga (Oberliga/4th Division). I’m sorry, I would be in the huge line to criticize Meyer big time myself if he did it. I can see you are a big fan of this kid Stephan, but like it or not, FCN’s problem is not goalkeeping. Otherwise, being the kind of coach that he is, Hans Meyer wouldn’t hesitate to give your boy his chance. I thought Blazek was one of the few bright spots for FCN yesterday and has not been bad this season, though he has had his moments. But so has the rest of the team too. It wasn’t Blazek’s fault that his defense and midfield were totally overrun by Bayern and other clubs this season.

I think if there’s any player on the second team who should be getting Bundesliga chances, it is Chuly Pagenburg.

Very sad to see..especially when they literally handed FCB's asses to them in February, even with "almighty Kahn" in goal. We can do better than this.

Sadly, at the moment, no, FCN cannot do better than this. FCN is playing without very important players in Vittek, Pinola and Glauber. Also, even though he played yesterday, Saenko is nowhere near 100% yet and Mintal is lost with no other weapons on the field to take the attention from him.

Another problem I think FCN has is the same one their German Cup Final opponents and defending champions VfB Stuttgart has.

I think the managements of both clubs overreacted to their UEFA competition status this season (Stuttgart – Champions’ League/FCN – UEFA Cup) and by signing so many new players, really screwed with one thing that was important to both clubs last season.

Team Chemistry!

I think Martin Bader is one of the best Sport Directors (General Mangers) in the German game. However, I believe he totally screwed up in letting Markus Schroth go without having a good replacement already signed or ready to sign. Even though Schroth has a knee problem and has not played for 1860 this season, Schroth was a big part of that team spirit FCN had going last season. And to let him go for nothing, I believe was very stupid. Especially when they wound up signing that scrub Angelos Charisteas to replace him.

Did I say I think this was very stupid on Mr. Bader’s part? ;)

I also believe he signed too many new players for this team that they didn’t really need. I think they did well in signing Misimovic, Nicky Adler and Peer Kluge. However, I don’t think they needed to sign players like Lars Jacobsen, Dario Vidosic and Petar Jelic. I also think they gave up on players like Marek Nikl and Jan Polak too soon. Sure, Nikl didn’t play a major role anymore, but you don’t just discard such a versatile player of his experience level. With Polak, no, he would not have played that much behind Misimovic, but they sure could use his offense off the bench now, couldn’t they?

I think this, combined with the injuries is why you see a pitiful FCN at the moment.

The key words being at the moment.

I think when they get some of their players back, if they can stay healthy, FCN will play well again, but I don’t think they will reach the heights of last season.

And I need to address your comment about “handing FCB’s asses to them in February.”

A lot has happened between February and now. I think I explained most of it above. Bayern spent 70M Euros and spent it well. FCN signed a series of cheap players and screwed with their chemistry.

Both are nearly completely different teams, if not in name, then in attitude.

There were two players in the Bayern starting lineup who started in February. Lucio and Schweinsteiger.

FCN had six. Reinhardt, Wolf, Galasek, Spiranovic Mnari and Saenko.

You can look it up if you like, but I’ll even give you the full starting lineups and goal scorers for both matches right here.

FCN 3-------Bayern 0 (2 February 2007)

FCN: Schäfer, Reinhardt, Wolf, Spiranovic, Pinola, Mnari, Gresko, Galasek, Saenko, Schroth, Vittek

Bayern: Kahn, Sagnol, van Buyten, Lucio, Lahm, Salihamidzic, Hargreaves,
van Bommel, Schweinsteiger, Makaay, Pizarro

Goal Scorers: Saenko (13th min/Assist Schroth), Schroth (71st, Assist Gresko),
Vittek (86th/Assist Saenko)

Bayern 3----------FCN 0 (7 October 2007)

Bayern: Rensing, Lell, Lucio, Demechelis, Jansen, Ottl, Ze Roberto, Altintop, Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Toni

FCN: Blazek, Spiranovic, Wolf, Beauchamp, Reinhardt, Galasek, Kluge, Mnari, Misimovic, Saenko, Mintal

Goal Scorers: Toni (31st/Assist Altintop), Ze Roberto (40th/Assist Schweinsteiger), Toni (81st/Ze Roberto)

What a difference eight months and 70M Euros makes, eh? ;)
