On the YA forum, Ceres just posted that a reputable paper in Denmark reported that the former US coach Bruce Arena had applied - this took place about a month ago? - for a head coaching job to replace a (voluntarily) departing an ex-Danish international great Michael Laudrup.

Search for "Arena" on this site and a portion of the article will come up.

Has that position now been filled? Post world cup Bruce stated he had an opportunity pre-world cup that was no longer available. Could this be it?

I remember seeing Brondby play my team Palermo in the UEFA Cup last year. They didn't look so good, but thats I've only seen them once.
ehhh they usually take those applications and just throw them away,,you need a buddy on the inside to hook you up

The real question is: Is Brondby any better than NYRB?

I certainly hope that was rhetorical

Well, Red Bull is richer.

I agree I'm sure he is better off in NY and if Red Bull is serious, wihich I believe they are, why there? He criticized the players for being on relegation/promotion battle clubs or bottom half of the division 1 clubs so why bother with Brondby? Are they ever in the Champions league finals or UFEA for that matter?

Brondby is one the two big Danish clubs (the other being FCK).
Red Bull has more money but the team salary is capped.

Plus Brondby would have given him a better opportunity to move up through Europe if he had success in the UEFA Cup/Champions League with them. In MLS he will get no notice from anyone abroad.

# of people in NYC who actually care about MLS -- maybe 300,000
# of people in Denmark who care about Danish league -- millions

Gee wiz if 300k care about the MLS in NYC, then the RED BULL should build a MARACANA in the Bronx!

Too bad. Although I wanted Arena out as Nats coach, I was hoping it'd be because he landed a gig in Euroland.
Looks the casualties in this flameout so far are Gooch, Arena, Beez, maybe Mastroeni.

there's a big difference in supporting some of MLS and supporting RBNY.
that and i was being mighty generous in my estimates.

Brondby havehad soem notableEuroepan perfomances, though they've never got further than the semi-finals of any Euroepan competition.
Brondby is nor quite a sgood as they were a decade or two ago when they often beat big Euorpean teams in the UEFA Cup and Champions Legaue. Are they better than RBNY? It's difficult to say, but they are the Danish Champions and from what little I've seen of Danish clubs in Europe over the last few years I'd say there's a fair chance they are better.

Red Bull is the second (third today?) worst team in MLS .. there are a lot of SAS clubs that are better than them ... or RSL ... or Colorado ... or KC.

But he would freeze his ass off at Bronby...
