German WNT player Conny Poehlers' blessed hands make it happen:

FC St. Pauli will face Bayern München on September 9 or 10. LMAO.

Both clubs played eachother in the DFB-Pokal semifinal some months ago, and now again in the first round, as you know.

I'm definitely looking forward to that match. This will be just another step in the good St. Pauli/Bayern fans and clubs relations.

I forsee much fighting on the pitch, Hoeness will be wearing his skull+bones scarf, ... and in the end fans assuring their team they will never have to walk alone. Bayern fans this time. :)

BMike86, I just realised you started the April semifinal thread, where pretty much has been said.

I hope it's not considered spamming, to open a threat that early.
But that game means alot to all St.Pauli supporters, as it would to every 2nd or 3rd league club fan.

It's like USA playing Brazil. :)

BMike86,

LOL....finally I met another person who starts threads "too early". I have been accussed of doing the same thing; guess we both have the same passion to chat about football.

Good on ya.

I think this match will be a fun atmosphere, but realistically can St. Pauli hang with Bayern?

Who knows.....St. Pauli were the dark horses last year and got ot the semis where we knocked them out but it is early on and we don't know what to expect of Bayern this season.

It's certainly possible. Pauli seems like a hungry eager club.

hyuk, hyuk! this brings back memories... i wish i was back in hamburg right now... i was staying at the stern hotel ON the reeperbahn - right next to gross freiheit and the 'funky pusy night club'...
on a thursday night, too!
good times! :D

saint pauli fans are crazy, lol... i got to see their stadium, btw - which was right next to the fifa fan fest and also close to where some of my friends were staying at neuer pferdermarkt...

sigh, what a great city... :)

okay, not gonna hijack the thread...
i say its a tough 1-0 win for us... van bommel to be subbed off by the 70th minute for hargreaves to come on and score the winner!

Podolski and Van Bommel should start.

Anything but a clear victory from the Bayern side would surely be a huge surprise.
I'd say 1:3

Luke P. gained shape and selfassurance now that Yoda Löw gave him the chance to play from the beginning,
and he made one goal on Saturday and may shoot at least 1 tomorrow vs San(kt) Marino.
Van Bommel wants to prove he's a good one, and Olli will be top motivated (what else would you expect, yawn).
In an interview he once said against Pauli he's even more motivated, so he'll give 120 and not 110% like he usually does.

Pauli started mediocrely into the season and suffer from injuries in the squad.
Their recently singned forward Clemens Lange wanted to show what he's got in his first training session
- and shot regular keeper Pliquett's right hand bones into pieces, from a 2m distance.

That said, I'm prepared to watch the pirate cog sinking like that ship in these Asterix comics. :)

He's got a good chance. Lahm is playing today and he needs to be in top condition for the match against Spartak. So he might not play the full 90 mins against St. Pauli. His obvious substitute would be Lell.

I usually wouldn't rush things, but Lell if I am correct is coming off a pretty serious shoulder injury. But...it has nothing to do with his legs so I am for him getting some playing time if any, but as a sub. He needs to proove first that he is a solid defender, atleast that gives us a little bit more depth than Hummels if someone goes down. Nothing against Hummels but he isn't quick enough and is too young and inexperienced for the big matches against good to superstar strikers. Lell needs some experience as well but definitely not as much as Hummels, plus I think Lell is a step or two quicker.

Lell isn't so inexperienced. He's been playing in the Regionalliga with the amateurs and in the Bundesliga with Cologne. I agree that he shouldn't start. But I believe Van Bommel and Podolski will both start.

For sure. I see no reason for not starting these guys this match.

Would actually love to see the 3-5-2 formation come out for a match, just to test it out.

Sagnol..............Hargreaves...............Lahm

This i feel is the absolute formation and player mix Bayern can have out on the pitch.

What we get with this:

5 solid Defenders (Sagnol, Lucio, VB, Martin, Lham)
2 very damn good defensive midfielders (Hargreaves, VonB)
1 totally offensive winger, no looking back here its all go, but does cover nicely for Lahm (Schweini)
1 striker who is full of energy, pace, shotting instinct and who can lay it off (Podolski)
1 ..........the king
2 excellent crossers of the ball (Sagnol, Lham) doest really get better Sagnol
2 very stong midfielders going foward who can marshall the troops (Hargreaves, VonB)
1 captain courageous in goal

and to summarise my frustration:
1 C*nt on the beach who will not use this lineup (FELIX)
