i think with the absence of Italian teams iwhich are Bayern's toughest rivals in CL, now it turns out that this is the great opportunity for Bayern to show their strength.

i think this is already being talked about in the expectations thread so i dont know if this is needed.

but i'll restate my opinion....

i think Juve and AC Milan year in and year out are expected to make it to atleast the semis and are easily capable of. now with them both out of contention that opens the door for 2 more spots for a Lyon, Benfica or maybe even Bayern if our wheels are turning in the right direction. we need good service and hopefully schweinsteiger will keep feeding Podolski. I think if we get Ribery we are set to make a good run, if we don't get Ribery who knows what'll happen.

If we get another player or two...a good run, but that's about it.

Now if only Barcelona and Chelsea were to get relegated as well because of illegal dealings. :p

Amen...Inter and Roma will be in the CL, but I don't think AS Roma can hang with the European giants. (Even though, I like them.)
Inter has a lot deeper pockets and a much deeper bench.

I would love to see Chelsea and Man Utd get destroyed this season in the CL.

well Man-u got destroyed last year in the CL,heck they came bottom of their group. If they sell RVN and with an unhappy ronaldo i can see a similar thing happening. As for Bayerns chances,i wouldnt say they were too bad. As long as Van Buyten and Podolski fit in well and perform consistently, and none of our major players get injured,we should do pretty well i think, also if Deisler returns and gets back to his old form we've got a much better chance of doing well

btw, bayernwake,if you read this,is ur sig that uh eraser thing by the dude from radiohead ,tom yorke,i think?

What, now we have to rely on other teams to be ruled out of the competition to have a shot at it? No thanks, I'd rather beat all the "giants" (including United) fair and square, Bayern has to prove it's on the same level as every other team, only then can it be taken seriously, respected, and feared.

Having said that, I think we do have a decent shot, even though Magath ruled it out  , we have the talent, it's just going to take heart and unity which Magath unfortunately isn't very good at instilling. Now that Ballack is gone, I hope the team finds some kind of leader on the pitch who will inspire them.

Although I suppose this also gives Spanish teams more opportunities to take us down. I could see Lyon as well providing the killing blow to CL hopes. Oh well, I think the answer might be to just play Stefan Effenberg again (he's at least a winner...).

As for the incoming recruits, I'd rather that Bayern just buy off HSV's talent (and them let them rot on the bench, think Hashemian). And although I think that Podolski and Van Buyten will probably do fine, I'd rather see Van der Vaart, personally (or even their new defender Kompany, who I think has a good future ahead of him).

Yep, it's from the album cover of Thom Yorke's The Eraser.

And I agree, if we solve our attacking/creative midfield problem, I think we stand a pretty good chance.

Is Bayern picking up anybody out of the Italian ordeal?

Unlikely, I'm hoping that Bayern is now putting on all their efforts in getting Ribery (with Lucho Gonzalez as contingency plan)

I think Bayern would be a great fit for Ribery. He is needed and is definately moving up in the football world from OM.

Lucho...sounds good, good midfielder...helped Oporto get their first superliga since Jose left...but I think Inter might take him.

Bayern have a team capable of winning the c.league
the defense of Lucio, Van Buyten, Sagnol and Lahm is absolutely world class

midfield will improve because ballack has departed and bayern will have now a true playmaker

attack is good with expected recovery of Santa cruz

for bayern to win they have to avoid certain teams like Chelsea and Inter Milan.

why I think they won't win
this is a honest opinion and please dont feel bad about it

1. Magath.. bayern play without any tactic.. no clever free kicks, no counter -attacking formation. everybody play in his position strikers only strike and wingers only play on the wings

- magath does not read the game well and make alot of blunders
-although he has won the bundesliga, it is due to the fact that he bhas the best squad by far. how will you explain the 4-2 beating by chelase and 4-1 by acmilan?

- magath gives up easily, in 2004 Vfb lost a healthy lead on top of the league to finsh 4th. they lost around 7 of there last 10 matches. bad coaching in deed.

- finishing power bayern lost many matches when the league was nearing the end last term, poor hsv failed to captalise

2. kahn.... he dont come out to cut crosses.

way forward
you need a good coach and another goalkeeper to challenge for champions league

Add to that management's inability to add any effective players from outside Germany (re: Ribery) since what we have clearly isn't enough....

I think Magath is a good coach for the Bundesliga but thats about it. It's not too difficult to win the league with a team like Bayern and their squad of players. In his first year, it seemed pretty smooth sailing but that wore off and this past season we almost lost it to HSV and Bremen so it is waning.

The CL seems completely out of Magath's range.

Who'd replace Magath?

Blithering idiot Kalle says some is usual shit and some get immediately emotional :p
Besides that Kalle only said what we all know already, Marseille declared Ribery as not for sale, which is not surprising at all. Ribery is the one who is going to decide about leaving or not!

Well, I was already hoping that he will get sacked after this season because of his inability to create a new decent squad and what did they do? Extending his contract!

Maybe he can surprise me and he can make it right, but I doubt it, he already has dispelled promising youngsters (Mausersberger, Stegmayr, etc.) and without decent reinforcements those would have been necessary. Hey, but maybe they can surprise us in signing a decent midfielder? :p

Ok, I'll stop dreaming :D

Completely out of Bayern's range, but that's nothing new ;)

Against the unlimited fundings of the other big clubs? I don't see how!

i do think its pathetic that our highest transfer was Roy Makaay. no offense, but of all the great players of all time Roy Makaay is definately not one of them. i'm not saying to go out and get one, but a lot of superstars go to big clubs throughout time, our biggest is/was Roy Makaay? what the heck, but then again that reflects the tight pockets again...
